Whale of a day!
Tue, May 24  2:00 PM Koalagirlccs Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
It was great weather, we went on the 2:00 trip on May 24, 2016. Took my cousin and her friend, and they loved it, we stood at the bow of the boat the whole time. This was their first time, my 3rd or 4th, and I have never been disappointed with Dana Wharf. We saw the whale several times, think it was a humpback, we saw him blowing his top and waving his tale. We saw a little stingray, and common dolphins who love to swim with the ship, they are so cute and full of life. We also saw a couple of sea lions, swam right by us in the harbor, while we were waiting, and saw a few out in open water. So cool, and worth the price just for the boat ride, but seeing a whale in person is so much better than seeing them on TV or video, it's very exciting for everyone.

This was our second time on the whale watching excursion. Fantastic we saw a large pod of dolphiins well over 1000. We visit our daughter and son in-law and make a yearly trip. We definitely will be back!!!

The cruise was everything we had hoped for, except someone forgot to tell the whales of our rondavue point., HA! Never the less, it was very enjoyable, & relaxing.

We intend to book another cruise on our next trip.

The crew did a wonderful job of getting you off on time and checking on the safety of the passengers. Seeing the whales and dolphins was spectacular. The crew was very informative about marine life and the ocean. Definitely will recommend this adventure.

New and Exciting but Disapointed

I went as a mandatory field trip for my Marine Mammals class, having Marine Science my major, I was so excited for this trip. I have always wanted to go whale watching and get up close and personal with the animals in their natural surroundings. I enjoyed the lecture and breakfast very much, I was touched and intrigued by the stories of the Grey whales in the lagoon in Mexico. Seeing footage of Grey whales coming right up to the boat and letting people touch them, is something I would dream doing. I found it beautiful and educational. However, I had kept in mind that this whale watching cruise of the Grey whales would not be that close and personal, but was let down immensely. The crew was very nice, and helpful, and the cataraman itself was wonderful, very spacious and clean. As we starting going, we were able to spot hundreds of dolphins in pods swimming past us. I was ecstatic! It was an amazing sight. Then encountered hundreds more, and more dolphins, but nothing else yet. As we started to close the trip, we did however spot a small shark! More dolphins, and birds, not a whale in sight. I was very disappointed especially because they had built up this idea that were so many whales being spotted and such. Then right as we were heading back, they say they know for a fact they saw a whale. Everyone jumped to the bow, and waited anxiously to spot anything that resembled a whale. Nothing. Then we headed back to the dock and it was over. I started to believe that maybe they just give us hope that we'll see whales but then say they're gone. I would still however love to go to the Blue whale watching cruises in Summer , in hopes of actually seeing a whale! But would hate to be let down again. I'm for sure going to Mexico to go touch those giant beautiful animals in person, and really interact and learn from them!

Even though we didn't see any whales, we saw a small pod of common dolphins. The crew was fabulous!

We had a wonderful time on the cruise. I especially loved the fact that there were not so many people on board - everyone could get right on the railing to see the whales and dolphins. Our captain was great - he did a fantastic job finding whales and dolphins for us to view as well as providing us with interesting narration. I am looking forward to another trip in the near future!

Friendly Crew, Bad Fishing
Sat, Mar 29, 08   6:30 AM kmhall1 Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I booked the 1/2 Day fishing trip and was anxious for an exciting 5 hour expedition full of action. Instead I ended up on a boat with 30 other disappointed people.

Fishing was terrible! The combined fish count for the entire boat was less than 10 fish on the day, and none were more than 14 inches long. There was no seating available on the boat so everyone, including small children and seniors, were forced to stand for 5 hours and fight the rocking of the boat. Several people gave in and sat on the wet slimy deck in order to rest their legs. The 3 man crew was friendly and courteous, and our boat was witness to a whale that surfaced nearby and numerous seals, but those are the only positives I can muster for this adventure. I would NOT recommend this activity during this time of year. I understand fishing conditions can vary which may have contributed to the lack of success, but with todays sonar technology and other fish finding devices, I feel the crew could have put us in much more action.

We saw a huge pod of 500 dolphins, and we saw a very large blue whale. It was really a special day and the captain was very knowlegeable about the sea life we saw. I went with my 84 year old mother and my 16 year old daughter. A great activity for young and old!

We took the catamaran boat for our whate watching experience. It was awesome! Weather was cold but clear, water was calm, boat was comfortable and offered both indoor and outdoor seating and/or standing. We saw whales on 4 different occasions during the 2 hour trip, however, they were very elusive, and did not like the boats approaching, so they stayed very quiet and did not exhale in a way that would allow us to see the big spray from their blowhole. Instead, they would come up to the surface, quietly exhale, then go back down again -- so, you only got to see a small part of the top of them, and just for a quick second or two. It was still really neat to observe. The dolphins were incredible though! There were hundreds of them, and they loved to play in the wakes of the boat. They were so much fun to watch! We also got to check out the seals on our way back to the dock. All in all, it was a great experience, and I would definitly do it again! :)

While we were not lucky enough to actually see a whale on our tour, we did happen upon an amazingly large pod of dolphin and were able to photograph them as they played along side the boat. The Captain and crew were knowledgeable and entertaining, making the trip even more enjoyable.
