One whale, lots of dolphins!
Sat, Mar 12, 11   11:00 AM lyzurdia Female 20-29 Local Group of Friends
We only saw one whale, but there were dozens upon dozens of dolphins. Some were even jumping out of the water. I recommend the 2 hour tour; we were getting hungry by the end and I don't think we would have made it through 4 hours!

We were able to see whales, sea lions and many dolphins. The crew was knowledgeable, so we learned quite a bit about all the animals. It was a fun, and educational experience for the whole family.

Captain Corey was wonderful. Taught us all about the whales. Where they come from and where they go. the difference between the hieight of the fluke and how long they can stay under water. it was great. i felt very safe. all workers on board were kind to guide us carefulle while we went in and as we came off the boat, making sure we did not slip or fall. we didnt see any whales and we were pleasantly surprised to receive a whale ticket.

we did not know that we had a cook on the boat, but the bacon sure smelled good... will absolutely recommend dana point whale watching

The store staff was rude. The boat staff was great

Went to get our tickets and the cashier was shoving food in his mouth and said,"What do you want" as half his breakfast hit the counter. He found our tickets and we asked "okay where do we go?" A female barked out, "where do you think" and pointed around the corner to several boats in the dock. How about,"I'll be with you in a second?" Or it's the boat with the name of ...on the back. very UNPROFESSIONAL.

On the other hand, the boat staff was awesome! They narrated the whole trip and apologized several times because we saw something but lost it. It wasn't their fault but they felt like it was. They really offered a lot of info and even gave us a refund to come back again! That is the ONLY reason I'd come back; definitely not for the sale people. They (cashier) treated us and others like we were interfering wiith their day by showing up.

Good service, no sights

As we were advised on the way out of the harbor, whales and dolphins don't always cooperate and that was the case for our trip. Although a sister ship reported some whales "showing well" and we could see some spouting in the distance, by the time we got out there, the whales had obviously decided to go elsewhere. There were no other sightings of anything. The staff and crew were helpful and the captain was informative. We were given "whale checks" to come back another day and will certainly do so and hope for better luck.

So much fun - love the captain and crew, all so friendly and very funny! Glad we got to see whales since we heard the last 5 trips before us they didn't get to see anything! I guess we really got lucky! =)

I loved it. I would definitely do it again. My daughter and husband enjoyed it too and we are definitely going next year. We also invited all of our family members and thought it was a great thing for us to come together and enjoy.

Tons of fun and so affordable!

My son and I recently went whale watching. Although we are somewhat local to the area we have never been and we had a BLAST! We went at 8AM. It was a beautiful sunny morning. We saw whales. It was great. It was cold. So I reccommend that you bring good heavy jackets because it gets super chilly especially if you end up standing in shadows. All of the staff was really nice. They have a galley that serves a few breakfast items. My son is 8 and he had a really fun time. I wouldn't reccommend taking really small children because they might get bored. There were some smaller kids that I heard crying and complaining at one point. I am definitely going to do this again!

Beautiful Views, Excellent Crew

While we were disappointed that there had been no whale sightings that day, we were impressed with the effort the crew made to give us a delightful and entertaining ride. They scanned the waters and contacted other boats to locate a pod of dolphins. They were such fun to watch playing in the water. Our boat paused in the area to give us excellent photo-opts. The children loved seeing the baby dolphin. As a grandma, I loved the views of the coastline. It was a cool day but the sunshine made it perfect. Thank you for a wonderful time!

I do this trip often and I am never disappointed! The boats are spacious and comfortable, the guys know more than a thing or two about sea life and they are always kind, helpful and courteous. Just an experience of a lifetime!

Love deep sea fishing out away from the bank
Thu, Mar 10, 11   10:00 AM Bergener Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
We stopped to get live bait and didn't go more than a 1/4 mile from shore. didn't use the live bait and didn't catch anything but bass. overall it was ok, but if bass was the only thing being caught we should have been told before going out to fish. The people on the boat were great and very friendly.

No Whale Sighting But Excursion Sensational!
Wed, Mar 9, 11   12:00 PM judithtaylor Female 60-69 Local Family Without Children
The crew was most accommodating and knowledgeable. The excursion was educational with a lot of history and information provided.. While we did not see a whale, we saw several sea lions and hundreds of dolphin. The weather was picture perfect, and the passengers were friendly. I bought a DVD filmed by one of the crew that showed many whales, so I feel fulfilled.

Not reccomended should have gone to Long Beach
Wed, Mar 9, 11   12:00 PM JanCortez Female 60-69 Local Family With Children
After having time to think about the trip I feel we were deceived. The whole time we were in the boat we never really left the local port, in fact we could see Dana Harbor the whole time. Seeing the Dolphins was a nice sight to see, but if the captain had taken us further out the chances of seeing a whale would have been greater. Seeing as the next trip was in 2 hours, I feel what happened was a standard practice of the excursion. Looking at the paper the next morning Long Beach sighted a whole pod of whales. Now that's whale watching. I don't like to say negative comments, but it was a waste of our money as we can see Dolphins any day by mearly walking the beach.

RE: What a Day!

My Second Great Adventure with Dana Wharf whale watching this season. My Out of Town guests didn't know what to expect but will never forget the boat surrounded by Dolpins leaping from every direction to feed on huge school of bait fish and Pelicans dive bombing by the hundreds... Better than any National Geographic special... and just a couple minutes out of the Harbor in deal calm seas! Crew was terrific explaining what was happening and enthusiam for the day as well... A great bargain for anyone visiting The OC ...
