Nowhere to sit or get out of the sun...

Crew was great, had a good time, but the boat has no seats to rest on and its a long trip... Also, there is no indoor galley so you can't get out of the sun on a hot day.

In addition to the beauty of the ocean and the ocean mammals, the captain and his commentary were impressive and entertaining. His knowledge of the mammals and the sea is extraordinary. Our little group highly recommends this experience and Dana Wharf Whale Watching.

Exciting Trip

We often take visitors to special things in the area, and whale watching is one of the true highlights. This trip we found and followed a grey whale for about 20 minutes, getting his rhythm, seeing the deep dive with tail flop a number of times. Really exciting. I love it because this is where the whales live; it's not SeaWorld. The boat trip up and down the coast is also very beautiful. I'll be back, alone or with visitors, many times again.

Great trip, crew really knew what they were doing

The crew tried very hard to find whales and did find one. However they found 50 dolphins that wanted to run with the boat. Very cool.

This excursion was WONDERFUL! The captain of the boat worked hard to find us Whales and was very knowledgeable and educational. He maintained a respectable, yet close, distance to the animals. The trip was 2 hours and we were all really sorry to see it end. This is an inexpensive and wonderful way to spend an afternoon and is definitely something I will do again.

We had a great time, the crew is young and very informative and respectful of the sea-life! As the captain saw the different dolphins (common, bottle nose & rizzos) he told us a lot of information of the different species that was very interesting. We also saw a whale and her calf, we really liked how respectful the crew was of the whale "mom" and calf and kept their distance . Wonderful outing and the crew was great!

1/2 Priced Whale Watch (past event)

We took part in the Whale Watching expedition (Dana Wharf Sportfishing) last week. Though it was January, Southern California's weather was beautiful. Our boat was clean, tidy, and the crew was very helpful. My parents, in their 80's, were able to sit comfortably in the galley, and watch the cruise from inside.

Our captain was very informative, and we saw a "pod" of a type of whale I'd never heard of, a few schools of dolphins (they loved playing in the wake of the boat!), and two grey whales (a mother and her calf.) The trip was just the right length and was very pleasant.

Though we did not eat, the cooking coming from the galley smelled great!

Enjoyable, Affordable Afternoon on the Water

My wife and I are spending most of the winter in this area rather than in Kansas City. My cousin and his wife visited us and wanted to see the whales. We found the Dana Point site online and decided it sounded better than the site downtown. We had gone to Catalina before from Dana Point. We enjoyed the trip very much. Got to see Bottle-nosed Dolphins, at least one Gray Whale (on several occasions) and another species of dolphin (can't remember the name) that looked white. Everyone in our group thought the trip was well worth the fee, and we all would do it again.

A very pleasant experience

We thoroughly enjoyed the whale watching experience. Of course, it helped that we were able to follow a grey whale for about 1/2 an hour, and observed a school of 60 or more dolphins, finalized by viewing a small group of a larger species of dolpins. The captain of the boat shared knowledge regarding the different sea creatures we observed, which enhanced the experience. All in all, I would reccommend it and would do it again.

The whole trip was great. Weather was great, fishing was even better. Lots of keepers and just as many fun to reel in throw-backs. Captain and deck hand were really terrific as always.

We didn't see any whales due to the dense fog. Better to go later in the day I guess. Still, the crew took us into a pod of dolphins which was fun to see.

Whale Watching

Although we didn't see any whales I was not disappointed. I saw dolphins playing and jumping in the water. I had never seen them other than Sea World before. They were very close to the boat and I could see the different types of dolphins. It was very exciting. I also saw many sea lions floating in the ocean with their flippers pointed towards the sun. The two hours was the perfect amount of time. It was a wonderful experience I plan on enjoying again.
