Gray whales & a megapod of dolphins

I have never seen so many dolphins together at one time; hundreds leaping and cavorting.

The whales (3) showed their tails. Sun was shining, it was a great 2 hours.

Glimpse of an Amazing Journey

Very pleasant 2-hour trip from Dana Wharf with great Captains who are Marine Biologists, qualified to talk about the sea life for which we search. On a beautiful day, we looked to the horizon and were not disappointed. A pair of whales kept us thrilled with their spouting and a few flukes, but mostly just playing side by side through the swells. Near the end of our time we encountered a large pod of Bottle-nosed Dolphin. They love to play in the wake of the boat, swimming right along side us ~ not unlike some kids when you get out the camera. :-) When our Captain cranked up the engine to return to port, the dolphin did not miss the opportunity to show off and enjoy the large wake. They rode those waves and leaped out of the water ~ high into the air ~ much to the thrill of the passengers. This was a repeat trip for me and two of my three guests. Without a doubt, we'll do it again!

Wonderful experience

The dolphins leapt. The sea lions waved. The sharks knifed through the water. The whales--minke, fin, gray--rolled, breached, dived, and spyhopped. We even saw a couple of mating whales. That was unexpected! The captain was knowledgeable. On board were experts from the American Cetacean Society. We were the only boat out on the other side of Catalina, looking at the vast expanse of sea. I had an exceeding great time.

Would never pay full price for this. Guides were perfectly pleasant but tour needs more narration to make it interesting.

We have done this trip before, and it is always fun and instructive. No, we did not see whales this time, but lots of dolphins. Just a wonderful opportunity to get out on the water and reconnect with life out there.

While we were not fortunate enough to encounter any whales, we did encounter more bottle nosed dolphin than we have ever seen in our lives! It was spectacular!! The dolphins played in the boat's wake providing us with probably 45 minutes worth of awe-inspiring entertainment! It was phenomenal! The captain was a wealth of information about all cetaceans! We learned quite a bit! We were a party of 13 people (3 families), ranging in age from 4 years old to 53 years old, and EVERYONE had a great time! We would do it again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend this company!!

I have been on two whale watching tours with Dana Point Whale Watching tours. I saw whales and many other kinds of mammals and fish both times. The crews were very knowledgeable about the animal and the area. The boat was clean and looked well maintained. I had a wonderful times on each tour. I have already recommend DPWW to my friends.

The Whales didn't get the memo. They were nowhere to be seen. Cpt. Todd made the "hunt" very enjoyable . Looking forward to our next adventure.

Love the Whales

We saw two species of whale. 1 Fin Whale. 2 blue whales. Common Dolphins.

The Fin Whale popped up approx 30 feet away 3 different times shortly after we left the harbor. Fin whales are the second largest whales averaging 70 feet and 80 tons.

We saw the common dolphins in pods of 20 - 30 several times on our way to see and from the blue whales.

The blue whale is the largest animal ever known to live on earth, averaging 100 feet and 200 tons. We were given the greatest blue whale show ever. The blue whales popped up many times as close as approx 20 feet away. We saw a spectacular diving show with the tail-fluke waving to us twice. Better than Sea World.

This is my third time on Dana Wharf Whale Watching. I recommend this tour to everyone.

We had a group of friends from Palms Springs visiting our Dana Point home (We split time between DP and PS). Everyone anticipated the whale watching experience and they were not disappointed. There were 7 whale sightings. Of course, the weather was perfect, which helped make the day perfect. This was our 2nd exceptional whale watching experience. The captain and crew were friendly and extremely knowledgeable about whales and sea life in general.. Overall the experience was outstanding and we will be recommending the trip to friends. Thank you.

Must be an advanced fisherman.

This trip is not worth the money. You must be an experienced fisherman to catch anything off these boats. I purchased tickets for myself, my son, and my niece and nephew. Our group did not catch one single fish. The poles they rented us were incapable of casting, and you absolutely had to have a pole that you could cast. I had asked several times when I was inquiring about the trip if I needed to upgrade my poles and I was told no. The boat went maybe 100 yards off the shore and that is were we fished from, I would have been far better off renting poles and going to the beach to fish. This was an entire waste of money.

We had a fabulous time. Beautiful weather, perfect size group, exceptional Captain, plus we saw a whale. Could not have asked for more.
