Great whale watching experience

I have never been whale watching before. I didn't think that we would see much. Maybe some dolphins and sea lions and possibly a whale's tail in the distance. I was totally amazed by how much we saw. We saw several whales. One even jumped completely out of the water in front of the boat and breached a couple more times. The boat captain was very respectful of the whales. He got us close enough to see, but not too close so we wouldn't put stress on them. We also saw a huge pod of dolphins. There must have been a thousand of them. We got great footage of them surfing in the wake of the boat. Overall a great experience.

A Very Fun Trip but Potentially Disappointing

Obviously, when a person chooses to go out on the vast ocean and look for whales, there is a very good chance they won't find anything. We almost didn't. However, near the end of our tour, our tour boat discovered a pod of nearly a thousand dolphins. Even for someone like me who gets very seasick - the opportunity to be that close to a vast group of marine mammals was absolutely breath-taking and worth the misery.

Despite the risks, Dana Wharf Sportsfishing and Whale Watching is a top-rate business. We changed our tour due to rain and they made it a painless transition. Their desire to please the customer and provide them with a memorable experience is evident in the way their employees treat their clients.

It was a wonderful experience. If we had gone the entire tour without seeing something, we would have had an opportunity to reschedule. However, rescheduling isn't always an option for people. So before you spend the money, take into consideration the amount you are spending and your tolerance for the gamble. We bought our tickets on a half-price Tuesday tour which made the gamble a worh while risk to us.

My trip was a once in a lifetime

I was blessed enough to observe one gray whale on my trip, on 1/3/12

After we viewed the gray fro a while, we went to see what else we might find, and I was blessed, fortunate enough to be on the Dana Pride noon ride, and we found the pod of 10 orcas.

This was my first trip since a kid on a field trip in 3rd grade.

Only downside, was the dude "narrating" the trip never stopped. So for essentially 2 hours, some dude on a loud PA system, was just yackin, and yackin, and..... it was really a downer. Otherwise would have been a 5-star trip.

Glad we got to see a whale and some common dolphins. Would have been nice to stay longer as it seemed we traveled quite a while and saw nothing and when we did, we had to return to dock.

Beautiful experience!

We really had a great time! The ocean was calm and the sky was blue.

Since we only got to see just a few dolphins, seal and otters (and unfortunately no whales), the crew extended their 'whale check' so all of us received a return trip..... we would be back regardless. The crew was great (and provided a lot of interesting fish facts to the guests) .... the boat was pristine (even the bathrooms).

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon!

We had a great time, and can't wait to do again!

Our experience overall was excellent, buying and printing tickets online was painless.....One arrived check in only took a couple of minutes

The event itself was amazing, we loved every second of it.....It just so happen to be my boyfriends birthday, he was very impressed with the experience.

The best example I have is, after our day was over my boyfriend who isn't amazed by the small things as myself, said that it was a once in life time experience and was very thankful for the birthday surprise.

Therefore I would like to thank everyone involved in making his day a special one, it's a birthday he'll never forget!

Thank you,

Personally not terribly exciting. Disappointing

There is very little seating for those that need it. be prepared to standOur 74 old mother with her freshly healed broken foot looked forward to this adventure.. at this point probably a once in a lifetime thing for her...We went after a few days of rain and wind,The swells were very high, and nowhere for her to sit on the main deck , as there are no seats there( all the seats were taken on the upper deck) sitting down below caused motion sickness within minutes so she had to stand and hold her ground and balance with her feet. she was very sore afterward. the last 15 min as we were heading in we saw 2 whales...quite a ways away. that was it. you had to look hard. they surfaced twice and were gone. the next day we went fishing and we saw dolphins swimming with our boat and sea lions, but mom wasn't with for that trip. personally disappointed on behalf of my mom.I'm glad we took advantage of the 1/2 price Tuesday The crew were looking.. but if they are not to be seen not much they can do about it.They seemed knowledgable and were very pleasant. Everything was very easy. from ordering tickets, directions and getting tickets at the counter in the shop.Parking was free and there was plenty of it

Amazing Tour!

These captains definitely know what they're talking about, and know exactly how to find the best places to watch. After stalking some Fin Whales for about an hour around an erratic course, we finally got ahead of them, and they surfaced right next to the boat!

I will definitely tour with Dana Wharf again. And anyone who doesn't is definitely missing out.

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

This whale watching trip short changes to the max. They say if you dont see anything you will get another ticket to go out another time, however if you see ONE dolphin and nothing else, they will not refund you. We saw some dolphins and I guess that was better than not seeing anything at all however my group was very disappointed in the experience overall and will not use this company ever again. I would not reccommend unless you want to pay for a 2 1/2 hour standing boat ride only to see nothing. In my book I would give it half of a star out of ten.

The first time we went on the Dana Pride to see dolphins/whales was almost a dud - we only saw three or four dolphins at the end. HOWEVER, they were kind enough to give us our tickets back so we could come to another show. We went the next evening on the smaller boat (not the Dana Pride). We went the opposite direction of the Dana Pride and ended up seeing a blue whale - the largest known animal alive on the planet. It was a BEAUTIFUL experience, and I was in awe of the opportunity to see such an incredible animal in its natural habitat. We saw a few dolphins leaping and several sea lions, including some baby sea pups with their mom :) A member of our group went a different time and had a completely different experience - hundreds and hundreds of dolphins leaping out of the water and close to the boat! From my experience, each time spent dolphin/whale watching is unique because the animals are in the wild, not trained to perform like puppets. To me, that is more precious than any "Sea World" show.

Fantastic! Great orientation breakfast with Todd

I am a travel agent in BC Canada and we booked a tour plus orientation breakfast with Captain Todd. Could have sat and listened to him all day but a boat was calling our name! Great weather, and fantastic time out on the water. Saw whales and dolphins and spectacular coastal scenery. Really enjoyed it and for the price of $45 pp this is well worth it. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I will be recommending this area to clients who plan a trip in Southern California as it's definitely something they can do while enjoying a Disneyland vacation. I plan to connect with Todd and build a working relationship with Dana Wharf with the hopes of perhaps a group tour at some time. Tiffany in the office was a great help with giving directions and information when I called with questions before the tour. Thanks Tiffany! Look forward to doing another tour on another visit to this beautiful area.
