Whale Watching

My wife and I and our 2 granddaughters went on the whale watching cruise this week. We took advantage of the half price Tuesday evening cruise. The weather was perfect, sunny, smooth, and the boat was very clean and comfortable. Thought we did not see a whale, we were most fortunate to see a school of bottlenosed Dolphins. The captain explained that this was a rare sight, as most Dolphins around Dana Point are know as common Dolphins. They are smaller the the bottlenose. It was very exciting to see all those huge bottlenosed Dolphins swimming along the boat with us, Many of them had baby dolpins with them.

We highly recommend this whale watching excursion.

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

We went on the evening cruise between 5 and 7 PM - there had been whale sitings reported throughout the day, so we were taken out to an area where they had been feeding. We followed the activity of one whale for much of our trip until the whale's surfacings became too erratic. Noting that it was most the likely the end of a feeding cycle for "our whale", the captain quickly changed course to view another whale in the area.

The crew was helpful and provided informative commentary about the whales and their feeding and migration patterns. And the sightings were breathtaking and worth the wait.

We enjoyed our trip and would recommend it to anyone who is willing to be flexible, as there is no guarantee that you will get to see the whales during your trip.

The crew was helpful. The captain helped my 8 year old fly catch a couple of bass and it made his day. We went home with 9 fish and we all had a great time on the Reel Fun! We had seven people aged 8, 11, 23, 25, 27, 47, and 49.

I have been on the whale watching adventure twice. We enjoyed the experience. Certainly wished one could be guaranteed to see a whale on a whale watching trip. It would be nice to have spotters pre-locate whales and or be offered a follow-up trip for a chance to see the whales on another day if you are not lucky enough to see one. The first trip we were on, we say the gray whale and the talk was all about seeing the Blue Whale. We re-booked in June hoping to see what all the talk was about and did not see the great blue whale. Maybe next time. We will try again.

Excellent experience. We did not see any whales on this trip. We found a pod of several hundred dolphins and it was fantanstic! We spent a good hour with the dolphins as they do like to play by the boat. We also a rare sun fish near the surface. This was worth everything and was a wonderful day on the water. Boat and crew were wonderful.

The crew was very helpful from putting the bait on to cleaning the shark that was caught. They were always doing something to help.

We recently brought friends visiting from Pittsburgh on a whale watching trip. The adults and kids enjoyed it completely. We were lucky enough to follow a mother whale with her baby for a long time, and to top it off, they were joined by several bottle nose dolphin! I could not have been happier to share the experience with my good friends! A once in a lifetime experience for many!

Fun trip for all ages, friendly and helpful crew & captain, plenty of room on boat. Didn't see any whales but stayed with a large pod of dolphins all around us and up to the boat, great photos! This is a perfect 2 hour trip to take out of town visitors on, my guests enjoyed it a lot. I will probably do this again in the warmer weather. The half price days are a great value!

We enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air, as well as a small pod of dolphins. Although the crew worked hard to find some whales for us to see, we didn't get to see any that day. The crew was kind to give back our tickets, inviting us to come back again at no charge with those same tickets to try another day. A generous offer, since our tickets that day were only half price!

Crew friendly and knowledgable. Boat clean. No whales this time but dolphins and sea lions are cool too! Kids love it (5 year old boy, 3 year old boy). Newborn slept in sling whole trip, must have been the motion! Snackbar helpful for kids midmorning munchies. Prefer the Dana pride to other boat we were on (same company) during blue whale season. Dana Pride larger, cleaner, more seats better for kids. We'll be back to try and catch the blue whales.

It was a nice tour, but my only complaint would be that the captain spent too much time waiting for one whale to surface...then rushed us back when the whale never emerged. The whales we flew by on the way back were not brought to our attention (having worked on a whale watching tour myself I doubt the crew didn't notice) and the boat would not slow down for us to view them because they had to be back in time for the next tour.

My Second Great Adventure with Dana Wharf whale watching this season. My Out of Town guests didn't know what to expect but will never forget the boat surrounded by Dolpins leaping from every direction to feed on huge school of bait fish and Pelicans dive bombing by the hundreds... Better than any National Geographic special... and just a couple minutes out of the Harbor in deal calm seas! Crew was terrific explaining what was happening and enthusiam for the day as well... A great bargain for anyone visiting The OC ...
