Although we didn't see any whales, we did see dophins, a huge sunfish and sea lions. The boat was clean and the crew very nice and informative. It was a beautiful Southern California day.

We did the two hour whale watching trip with Dana Wharf Sprotfishing and Whale Watching. Even though we did not see any whales that day we did get to see a lot of playful dolphin jumping out of the water and playing next to our boat. The boat ride itself was very enjoyable as well. As we searched for whales we rode along the beautiful California coastline. We had a group of 5 including an out of state visitor who had never been on a boat before! This was the highlight of his vacation. I will bring my family on this trip again and I would recommend it to friends.

We saw 3 Blue Whales, lots of dolfins, seal lions and seals. The crew was wonderful and informative. The boat was really nice and clean. I'm a native Californian and have been coming to Dana Point since I was 2 months old and never knew that whale watching was available out of Dana Point. Moved to Colorado 3 years ago and came to visit California with the kids and signed us up for whale watching! It's wonderful - do it!

We did not encounter or view any whales or dolphins and as a result we were issued a return trip voucher. We will return because the boat and crew were very knowlegable and great to their customers!

We observed little sea life, not for lack of trying, but the experience was great in spite of that. The boat was very nice and clean and handled the rough seas without difficulty. We were disappointed that we did not see whales or schools of dolphins, but we enjoyed the overall experience.

Worth the Trip

Took the Whale Watching trip at the noon hour in late April, and experienced a nice overview of the Dana Point Harbor and its origin. Seas were not very rough and the wind was pleasant, although does require a jacket and maybe hat.

Did not see whales, but located a large pod of dolphins and also sea lions resting on a large rock.

Hard to hear the captain if you are not at the front of the boat, so highly recomend standing toward the captain's location.

Would go again during a more advantageous timing for actual sighting of the whales.

Whales and the biggest shark
Fri, Apr 9, 10   12:00 PM BRSCHIEBE Female 60-69 Combination Family With Children
this time we not only saw whales (from afar, as usual) but we also saw a HUGE shark up close - so close in fact it actually went under the boat leaving us wondering if its plan was to chomp off a chunk of boat. It has its mouth wide open as it approached us.

Our captain tells us he never had seen a shark like this one! There was much speculating, but by the end of the trip, because of the determination of the crew and some fancy equipment, we were able to find out what it was.

All the crew members seemed fun, knowledgable, excited, enthusiastic, and willing to respond to questions.

I wish there was a way to get closer to the whales for a better view without disturbing them.

We had a great trip!

This is one of the best activities ever! I am from Illinois and come to California to visit my son, daughter in law and two grandsons. We try to do as many fun things as possible, and this is the best!

The staff interacted with us, making this a very educational activity, as well as lots of fun.

I would certainly recommend -- whole heartedly -- a whale watch to any native Californian or visitor.

Couldn't help the cheesiness. We had a great time and even went out again right away on our "whale check". The whole process was easy and enjoyable. We loved the journey and the wildlife. Thanks for a great time.

Fog, one whale tail, but still fun!

We made a date with the whale watching tour for a wedding party. It ended up getting foggy just as we went out on the ocean....we did see one whale before the fog got too think.

They did give us Whale Vouchers to come back again due to poor whether. We will definitely be back! Still had a lot of fun, good company, including the crew....made the trip memorable.

Not worth it!

As much as I was elated about going out to sea and seeing these amazing sentient beings, the entire excursion was not worth a penny. We got to see one whale for a brief 3 seconds; the boat ride was AGONIZING...imagine standing and balancing yourself and shielding yourself from waves splashing on deck in March (not warm weather at all) for 2 hours while trying not to vomit from sea sickness - yes even those that were Dramamine'd up felt sick. I think about half the people on the vessel were holding their heads from the rough boat ride. It was my group's (party of 4) first time doing a whale watching excursion but alas, it was best known as the torture excursion. No consolation t-shirt and/or sweater given out once we made it back to land, no souvenirs, nothing. As we all stumbled off the boat, I heard one passenger say "Those were 2 hours I'll never get back." This would be a good "experience" for those with stomachs of steal who want to see who can outlast their friend’s without getting sick.
