this might be the wrong time of year

the company gives out a chart that shows that most whales are seen in summer or late fall and we arrived at a slow period. the water was glassy and the trip was beautiful at sunset, when we saw more dolphins than the skipper had seen all day. the trip had been delayed by a previous client's fall, emt's, etc, and we missed a bit of the afternoon. the company gave us all 'whale checks' for a future trip. the company acted like real people, and that was great. even if you see no whales, and i had been hoping to see some seabirds that did not show up, but even so, it was a beautiful afternoon on the sea. try to get a boat that is not full, naturally.

Excellent Trip

The crew and captain were very polite and knowledgeable. The captain happened to spot some grey whales and headed toward them rather than going to a spot where there were already a lot of boats waiting for Fin whales to surface. We saw dolphins just after we left the harbor and they slowed the boat so we could get pictures and watch them. We were able to see 2 grey whales mating and were the only vessel out there. We spent probably a half hour watching and following them. A large pod of dolphins were in the area and we were also able to watch them. The captain also was very informative about the whales and dolphins which added a lot to the trip.

Captain explained grey whale migration habits, how they live, breed and their comparison to other whale family members. Sited two grey whales almost immediately out of the harbor! Beautiful day, great boat--very clean--and a good crowd on Valentine's Day--but not overcrowded.

It was a beautiful sunny day. During our two hour cruise we saw a whale and a large school of dolphins. For a while the dolphins ran alongside our boat. Crew were helpful and friendly. Lots of fun!

THE CAPITAN OF OUR SHIP WAS UNBELIVEABLY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE WHALES, PORPOISES THE SEA AND WHAT LIVES IN IT. EVEN IF WE HAD NOT SEEN A WHALE, WHICH WAS HARD BECAUSE OF THE MARINE LAYER, THE NARRATION WAS WORTH THE TRIP. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

A thrilll of a lifetime

Had only a half day to fit one more activity in before flying home. Wanted to get out on the water and decided this was the way to go and possibly see a whale while out there. Our knowledgeable and entertaining Captain Jack knew exactly what he was doing. He seemed to have a sixth sense as to where the whale was going. Sure enough we were able to see a gray whale breach about 9 or 10 times in a very short time. What a thrill! It even brought a tear to my eye to see this whale playing in it's own habitat. A great memory I was able to share with my two grown daughters and my granddaughter. It was also fun to see the captain and crew get so excited along with the rest of the passengers. Thanks so much for a great day! Highly recommend.

Great time and did not see much for over one hour, then captain announced he spotted two humpback whales and we sped to the area, Oblerves two humpbacks traveling together..

Later observed minke whale and some sea lions, Also captain oblerved grey whale, but it was near the end of our time and had to return.

Great time, and would redcommend to anyone, If you do not see something, you can return for free!!

The weather was cold and foggy but the trip was so much fun! We saw two gray whales. We watched the whales for about an hour. There was great narration and the facts were so fun to hear. We saw some "local" dolphins and some seals. It was a very great experience and we plan to do it again very soon.

Gloomy Weather...Great trip.

My 15 year old daughter and I went out on the Dana Pride last Friday. Weather over cast and light rain but if you prepare for weather, it's no big deal. We had a great time. It was a first for both of us. Got to see a slew of dolphins but the whales alluded us right until the end. We were about to head back to port when the Captain got a call from another ship that they had spotted a gray. So rather than return on time and miss the whale, the Captain choose to speed the boat over to the sighting and we got to see a lone whale heading south. Tells me a lot about Captain's dedication to the customers on board, for although the dolphins are are beautiful creatures, especially up close, , we came to see a whale! ...Great informative narrative by the Captain throughout the day.. Would absolutely do it again. Hint...had we not been on the last trip of the day...2 pm...we may not have had the option to stay the extra 45 or so minutes it took to see the whale, so that is the trip I would book in the future.

Dana Point is a beautiful area, the wharf is interesting and fun, and the Wind and Sea restaurant on the wharf had yummy soup and fresh calamari to warm us up after the trip. We had a great time and will certainly do it again, and recommend it to friends and out-of-town visitors.
