Whale watch, worth the trip!

Enjoyed the trip out to watch the gray whales. Followed a couple of grays for quite a distance. The grays are always amazing creatures to watch, but almost more exciting is the pods of dolpins also seen on the trip. We have been out before, but on this trip we were taken back by the hundreds of dolphins we saw this time around. Their playfulness and common interest in playing in the boat's wake is certainly something to see. Great fun and phenomenal pics (in and out of the water!)

We always enjoy the ride, the crew and the tour. Learn something new each time and find the trip well worth the money!

My family and I were visiting from Texas. This was an awesome trip, we actually saw some gray whales. We saw lots of common porpoise and some sea lions. We also got a beautiful view of the coast. The water was so blue. I would recommend this to anyone who might be interested. The crew was very knowledgable as to the location of the wildlife and gave us a great cruise and a wonderful family memory. Thanks!

This was an amazing experience! The crew did an awesome job of pointing out different things for us to see and locating whales. The whales were unfortunately inactive, but the crew put our boat in the middle of a huge pod of dolphins. Amazing! It was inexpensive and I will definitely do it again the next time (and every time) I am there!

This is the second time I've taken this whale watching cruise during "whale season." Both times the only thing we saw were dolphin, which are not hard to find off the coast in that area. I see them from the beach every time I'm in Dana Point/Capistrano. The captain kept telling us that dolphin are in the "whale family." I guess that is so when we don't see an actual whale we're supposed to feel better? I guess that's how they don't use their "money back guarantee?" If you see a dolphin...you're still seeing something. And yet the whale statistics on the site make it look like they're seeing many whales every day?

When we did see the dolphins, more than 35 minutes were spent just driving in a circle to the point where I was almost dizzy. After about 10 minutes of that not only my kids, but also the entire kindergarten field trip, who were also on the boat, seemed to be bored with it.

All in all the cruise was disappointing...again. They gave us a 10% off coupon for the next purchase, but after 2 disppointing trips on the same boat, I'm not sure I'd spend over $100 again to see dolphins...even with the whopping $3 off. On top of that, after not seeing any whales, they asked for tips upon leaving the boat.

Although we enjoyed the day we were disappointed that we did not see any whales. I tried to talk to one of the staff and ask questions but he was very short with me. I am not sure if I would go again. We did enjoy the dolphins.

The Whale Watching for Grey Whales
Fri, Mar 20, 09   10:00 AM DonnaMorse Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
It was fantastic. We actually saw a whale playing with dolphins. The whale would roll completely over, flapping it's flippers and the dolphins were jumping over the whale and actually jumping on the belly of the whale.

The whale also fluked 4 times.

The boat was comfortable. The crew was excellent. But, not a whale in site and only two dolphins. Nice boat ride though.

I had never been whale watching and thought it would be nice to do something different for my birthday. The trip was pleasant and the crew and other passengers were very nice. We saw many dolphins but unfortunately there is no guarantee that you will spot any whales.

We didn't see any whales but lots of dolfins playing with the boat. The crew was great lots of information given and spent their time really looking for the whales and made sure we got to see the dolfins up close. We also saw sealions. My daughters really enjoyed it even though it was a bit cool (weather).

Missed The Whales
Sat, Mar 21, 09   2:00 PM vpaeplow Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
First I want to say my children consisted of 17-22, 3 of them. It was very cold and windy and were very disappointed that they did not see any whales. We did see sealions and black and white dolphins, and the gray flipper like dolphins. Our guide kept referring to the few sitings we had as the kind you would see in sea world.....Well I don't think that was necessary, due to the amount we paid we could of gone to sea world and saw many more things including the above.

There just need to be a strong statement that whales are a treat for the tour, not a given. As long as you see dolphins there is no refund for the ticket, so just beware. If you see a whale consider yourself lucky, but if you want to see some dolphins and maybe some sea lions, and if your lucky to have a beautiful day, it is a great trip. The Chef on board makes delicious hamburgers fyi.

Lots of Dolphins - Great Boat

We had a great time. George (in the galley) made my wife and daughter feel very welcome. My wife says that he "makes a mean burger". We didn't see any whales, but did see lots of dolphins and sea lions.
