A great day on the water!
Mon, Jul 22, 13   2:00 PM bookends26 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My parents were visiting from the East Coast, so we wanted to take advantage of the chance to see blue whales. We enjoyed a great couple of hours out on the Ocean Adventure, a fast, clean boat with a nice and knowledgeable captain. We caught sight of two blues, including a great show of one's tail--well worth the trip! One note: The parking was very full that day at the Dana Wharf location, but if you go into the whale watch office, you can obtain a day pass to park in a separate lot.

Always a great experience

Even though we have been able to see dolphins every time we have taken the whale watching cruise we have never seen a whale and that's okay because it is always a wonderful sea adventure anyway. We just completed our third trip with Catamaran and highly recommend it to anyone who what to spend two glorious hours out on a boat. You have a great time seeing all the sea life around you and to experience the dolphins jumping in the wake of the boat is incredible. Go for the experience and if you are lucky enough to see a whale, then that's just icing on top of the cake.

Our group had mix of locals and vacationers. We saw several sharks, barracudas and a mix of fish we had never seen being caught and some released. The staff was very nice and helpful which made it easy to ask questions and get assistance. We had a light windbreaker, could have used heavier coat.

An amazing encounter with our local marine life

Everything about our two hour whale-watching was wonderful. No, we didn't see any whales, but we did see a huge pod of common dolphins. Amazing. And the expertise and enthusiasm of our guide made our encounter with these marvelous sea creatures so memorable. I can hardly wait to go on this trip again. Highly recommended!

Fishing is slow, but not too bad.

The crew is always nice and helpful. Fishing has been slow, but if your lucky you can catch some big ones. I caught a decent male sheephead and two small rockfish. My grandfather caught two small rockfish as well and he was so happy. My mother caught a large sargo. The one who got the jackpot was a very small boy with a large white bass. I love fishing, but be aware that even on a boat you might catch nothing. You need luck to catch fish these days. I love to see the sea lions play and we even saw a large mola mola or sunfish too. It swam next to the boat at the surface. You never know what you will see or catch. Good luck to all.

Whale watching at Dana Point

We borded the boat Dana Pride on time. Left harbor on time. Saw three types of dolfins. In the past with this company I did see whales. This time unfortunately we did not, so they gave us back our tickets to use another time. Wonderful.

Hard to see whales
Thu, Apr 25, 13   12:00 PM DonHolmes Female 60-69 Local Family Without Children
We saw 6 whales, 3 females and 3 babies but they were so far off that we didn't really "see" them. Better than not seeing anything at all, but it was a little disappointing. Nice to be out on the boat, beautiful, sunny day and the sea was calm. Informative Captain, nice crew. Lots of Dolphins and saw a few Seals. I think I would do this again if we have out-of-town company that do not live close to an ocean.

Barely out of harbor and sightings begin
Mon, Apr 22, 13   12:00 PM MaryAnnFlatt Female 40-49 Local Family Without Children
We had family in from out of the country and they had been wanting to do this for some time. We had checked out many different companies before we settled on Dana Wharf. The reviews we read sold us on them. We had a doubter amongst our group that had already prepared himself to not seeing anything that day. As the boat exited the harbor on it's last turn passing the sea lions, a shout was heard of a sighting at 10 o'clock (meaning direction it was seen). We all turned in that direction to see a second sighting. The captain announced it was a mother and her young calf. We followed her a bit but gave her plenty of room so as not to scare or annoy them. We later came across another mother and her calf not too far away. The crew was friendly and the boat clean.

We definitely will be recommending Dana Wharf Whale Watching cruises. My husband and I are already looking forward to our next cruise later this summer to see the blue whales migration.
