We had a great time on the cruise. It was both fun and educational. We were lucky and did get to see the blue whales while we were out. Amazing! Thanks for a great afternoon!

Best experience we had on our California vacation!

Our family was excited to learn that Tuesdays were 1/2 price with this company on our vacation at the beginning of July 2013. It was a perfect excursion to take after a long day at Disneyland the day before. We had the amazing opportunity to have a large group of dolphins swim alongside the boat with us for a long time. That would have been enough to satisfy our land-locked family from New Mexico! However, the appearance of a majestic blue whale for about 4 surface visits while he was feeding was beyond imagination. The captain's description of these amazing creatures captivated and educated all of my family (my husband and I, our 17 year old son, and our 13 year old daughter). After we returned home, I heard my husband and each of my children going on and on about our "whale-watching trip"... Disneyland was mentioned briefly but THIS was definitely one of our most treasured memories from this vacation. You won't regret it!

Highlight of our vacation!

We've been out with this crew twice. Both times were wonderful! On the last trip we saw hundreds of dolphins. Some were riding the bow and I literally got splashed from one dolphin's spray. Three years later my kids still love telling this story. Our most recent trip was very windy and choppy, but completely worth the rough ride as we saw a blue whale and her calf. The captain and crew were all so knowledgeable and friendly (particularly Steve was right on the bow with us and just as excited). We are planning to make this a yearly excursion.

This was the second time for me.....we were lucky enought to see a "mega pod" of dolphins, a Minke whale and a sunfish....The boat captain was really into it and very knowledgeable. Seeing that many dolphins is something I will never ever forget....Best day ever

Even though we have been able to see dolphins every time we have taken the whale watching cruise we have never seen a whale and that's okay because it is always a wonderful sea adventure anyway. We just completed our third trip with Catamaran and highly recommend it to anyone who what to spend two glorious hours out on a boat. You have a great time seeing all the sea life around you and to experience the dolphins jumping in the wake of the boat is incredible. Go for the experience and if you are lucky enough to see a whale, then that's just icing on top of the cake.

Best money spent in Southern California!

Though we are local, we had family in from Upstate New York. The group ranged in age from 10 to 70. The eldest was in a wheelchair. Every person had a blast and didn't stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. The crew helped my aunt in the wheelchair down and up the ramps. My uncle didn't have to do a thing. They are all super nice and enthusiastic. We all had a great time!

The only complaint I have about my trip on 6/24/2013 is that they did not rotate fishermen back to the stern. Since most of the fish were caught back at the stern, rotating would have been good. nevertheless, the two largest bass landed were caught on the port side. Fish volume however, was at the stern. This crew was light years ahead of the crew we had last year at Davey's Locker in Newport Beach. Go with Dana Wharf if you have a choice. It does not matter how many fish you catch if the crew is great. And the crew is great at Dana Wharf.

Our group had mix of locals and vacationers. We saw several sharks, barracudas and a mix of fish we had never seen being caught and some released. The staff was very nice and helpful which made it easy to ask questions and get assistance. We had a light windbreaker, could have used heavier coat.

We took the 1/2 price whale watching tour from Dana Point. While we didn't any whales, we did see a large pod of dolphins. The captain was very knowledgeable of the local marine life and educated the passengers about dolphins. We took advantage of the galley. It was a good trip.

Great time with an excellent crew

My 12 year old son and I had a great time on the 1/2 day trip. As we are both beginners , the crew helps us with all the tasks and shows what to do. The galley provided good food and the cabin and top deck seating was comfortable and with a good view. The other people on the boat were all friendly and we all worked as a team. Even though we did not catch any fish we had a great time. I not only would recommend this outfit, but will go out on another 1/2 day trip next time we are at Doheny State Beach and Dana Wharf.

The boat was clean and nice. The boat driver was very knowledgeable. The website wasn't clear that it was in between whale seasons. They did however give our tickets back for another trip because we didn't see any whales or dolphins. I would recommend this company.

We had a great time, but the ocean weather made the fishing a bit difficult. We caught 4 fish too small to keep, and only 2 fish from the whole 20+ group made it into the jackpot. Staff was friendly though, and it just happened to be a bad day to go fishing. Saw dolphins!

Glad we got to see a whale and some common dolphins. Would have been nice to stay longer as it seemed we traveled quite a while and saw nothing and when we did, we had to return to dock.

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

My family and I are California natives, but we're not very much beach people nor had we ever been whale watching. Not only did we have an excellent time on board the boat (more to come on that) we actually spent the rest of the day at the Dana Point harbor beach area and very much enjoyed every minute of it. After working so hard for so many years in school, and in the work force, my wife and I were able to have a minute to reconnect and escape our stressful careers for a little while...and my son, who's 11, loved every minute.

The website recommends you arrive for the trip a little early as the boat leaves promptly on time. This is very true! I appreciate the fact that the company actually runs by the clock and as a result respects the value of their patron's time. We were scheduled to leave at Noon. We left the dock at 12:01. The boat was very clean and well-kept. There was plenty of room to move around deck and the 3 crew members made themselves available at every turn. Very attentive! The captain's narration and informative dialogue about sea life and the habits of its living creatures was very intriguing. Not a dull moment. We saw many bottlenose dolphins and common dolphins during our trip. We also saw 2 Fin whales, and actually spent a good amount of time following one of these magnificent creatures as it went about its feeding habits. Most impressive. If you're anything like me you'll spend all of your time on deck so as not to miss anything. FYI, however, the bow of the ship is the best place on board and can get crowded quickly so you'll want to stake a spot out. The winds can make it pretty cold up there so be sure to bring a windbreaker or sweater. After an hour up there I sought something warm to drink for my family. I went below deck to see what I could find. I asked the fella behind the counter for some hot coffee, then changed my mind to hot tea, then decided on hot chocolate. Thinking they probably had only one of those selections I was thoroughly impressed when the fella asked "okay, which one? We've got all 3!" That was unexpected, but a pleasant surprise! (and it was delicious too - warmed us right up for the next hour)

In a nutshell the trip is worth the cost. It's not the least expensive trip available, but I assure you that you won't be disappointed with your purchase. This splurge is worth it. Pacific Coast Highway runs right past Dana Point so it would be my suggestion to spend the rest of the day at the beach, or saunter along PCH and explore its many beautiful points or quaint shoppes. Have fun!
