Great Trip / No Whales

This is the 4th time on the same whale watching ship and I have still yet to see even one whale. It seems a bit pricey for those odds. Also, we were freezing cold even with gloves and jackets and hats on. The crew was great and you can't beat the scenery, but we want to see whales!

The Dana Pride was a nice boat with informative narrative. Some of the family ate from snack bar and said it was very good. We did not see much sea life on our day but the cruise was fun anyway.

Fun time on Dana Wharf whale watch

We were hoping to see grey whales but were just a little too early yet. Did see a blue, several sharks, several playful sea lions, and lots of dolphins that played around the boat and rode the bow. The captain's information as we went along was very interesting. We all had a great time and would do it again.

Captian was Fantastic

We came upon some breaching whales (which does not happen off california coast) and the captian stopped the boat for a long while to watch them play. We were on our way back to dock and should not have stopped. Instead he stopped and used up excess fuel to get back to dock quicker.

About an hour into the boat ride my wife was sitting on a raised portion of the boat was sliding off to touch the deck...she is 5' so her legs were a couple of inches from touching the deck. As she slid off a piece of the ship that was tied to this "box area" came loose and she went with it onto the deck, bruised and pretty shaken up. A deck hand came over and secured the portion that came loose and asked her if she was OK, she said I think so. I was with her at this point. We went down in the galley to purchase a drink and told the bartender what had happened and he was pretty excited to go fix it but as soon as we told him it had been secured he lost interest,,,didn't even ask if she was ok. No customer service or concerns to the right persons I guess.

I booked the trip knowing that fishing would be questionable. Your web site held true and that was OK. My son's had never been on the ocean fishing and it was worth the looks on there face's. We will be back....

Thanks

We tracked a mum and a calf grey whale up the coast which was great to see, we also found a large pod of dolphin which was fantastic.

The captain and crew were excellent guides.

Amazing time for both of us!

The Captain did a great job parking the boat right on the fish. Everyone on board was catching Calico Basson 8 out of 10 casts. Those that were struggling with technique had a crew member come and show them the tricks to have an eventful time. Captain and the crew were very friendly and out going, made the trip so much more enjoyable. I highly recommend it to anyone. Our next trip will be with our children, we landed so many fish, with quite a few keepers, that it would be near impossible for them to have a bad time! Loved it 100%......by the way, no need for a shore pole. Regular length pole works great, right Cory?!?

This is the second time we have been out whale watching from Dana Harbor. We enjoy it very much. The staff or courteous, and still care a lot about what they are doing.

These guys know what they are doing really very well. I traveled from Oregon on Sept 7th and took this cruise to watch Blue Whales with a few other friends. We had a great look at the Blue Whale! And saw thousands of Dolphins swimming alongside the cruise and "by the wind sailors". The guides are very helpful and eagerly answer to all the questions you may have and more. They also talked of several interesting facts about the animals we saw. We had a "whale" of a time indeed!

Excellent fishing opportunity

Excellent day on the watere when Cory the Captain decided to stop searching for "Dorado,Mahi mahi, dolphin for 90 minutes...It was a great ride but the sea was way to flat to search for kelp patties.....After which we moved closer to shore to catch numerous Calico/Kelp Bass, techinque is much like fishing for yellowtail snapper in the Florida Keys....Rig a sliding egg sinker 1/8 to 1/2 ounce depending on current with a 1 to 1/0 circle hook....Both squid and sardine filets worked well...Place bait as close to kelp as possible as the Calico Bass are extremely territorial and aggressives as the bait drops 4 to 12 feet below the kelp....If using live bait use 3/4 to 1 ounce egg sinker to get the bait quickly to the bottom for halibut and away from birds. Pacific Barracuda, Halibut, a few pelicans, Commorants and losing fish to a pesky sea lion. Birds are definetly a problem when fishing live bait.....Both the mates Chad and Mike are excellent as was the captain in assisting patrons. Other than catching the fish themselves they did everything possible to find fish.......As a bonus the selection of beer was great and I had the best cheeseburger on a fishing boat ever......Fish are fileted on the way in so inner is ready to prepare when you get home or back to your hotel if the chef will cooperate,,,Wish i had taken a full day......As an ex mate of numberous fishing boats in the Florida Keys......These guys get an A++++and I would recommend them highly and hope to be back soon......
