Whales, Dolphins. Sea Lions

My 4 year old grandson and I enjoyed the voyage enormously. It was great to see whales so close, and watching the dolphins play along the boat was enjoyable. And who can forget the sea lions sunning themselves on the buoy. It just was a great trip. We will definitely return. Thank you!

My friend from Oklahoma and I went on the whale-watching cruise on 1/20/08 (sunday).

The staff were kind and professional, and we had a wonderful trip. We did not see any whales, but we did run into a wonderfully playful group of "common dolphins" (i would say around 100) playing in the ocean. The captain turned the boat around so we could experience the dolphins to the fullest. it was delightful

i would definitely recommend it to anyone! i will definitely take my family when they visit later this spring.

We had a wonderful trip. We went on a 2 hr whale watching tour. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales, but did see a couple types of dolphins and some sea lions. Regardless, the day was lovely and the boat operators were professional, informative and very nice.

Amazing dolphins and sea lions but no whales
Tue, Jun 24, 08   5:00 PM sblake0000 Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
The trip was awesome. We saw so many dolphins swimming freely in the ocean. We saw a couple of sea lions. We didn't see any whales but it wasn't guarenteed that we would. I would highly recommend this activity. Quick tip though bring layers for clothing just incase it's windy.

Very enjoyable trip

I had a great time on the boat. It wasn't too crowded so everyone could get to a section of the boat that had a great view. I would definitely do it again.

1/2 Day on Sum Fun
Sat, Jul 21, 12   12:00 PM sbay0307 Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
This was my second trip on Sum Fun, and each time with limited results - in fact, we only caught one fish between 3 of us. Both times the boat did not have anchovies for bait. Other boats that I've taken out had anchovies, and we were successful. The boat was overcrowded - 56 anglers. Not only was the boat overcrowded for fishing, there was a sign on the boat that read "27 adult life vests". Interesting. I will never take Sum Fun out again.

No whales but lots of dolphins
Sat, Mar 8, 08   10:00 AM saxsmaja Female 30-39 Local Family With Children
We didn't see any whales, but were lucky to meet large pods of dolphins.

The boat was nice, and since we had read reviews on Zerve before the trip we didn't set ourselves up to see whales.

One thing that I would have liked though was a note on how we could have gotten another trip since we didn't see any whales. We only thought about that several days after the trip.

Fun but not thrilling

Though I know you can not control if we see whales, it is the whales (not dolphins or sea lions) we pay to see. Otherwise, everyone was friendly and informative.

An Alaskan Cruise was fantastic but...
Sat, Mar 6, 10   9:00 AM SavannahDawn Female 50-59 Local Individual
Everytime the Captain said he spotted whales...they were gone by the time I got to that side of the cruise ship!

At Dana Point...I saw at least five whales, spraying, swimming, diving, and holding their tales above the ocean...like the whales tail charm I have had since I was sixteen from Hawaii.

I will go again, and again. Rain was forcasted...not till our wonderful trip was over. You said it is calmer in the am...with my accupuncture bracelets on, I was greatful to not heave with the swells.

Up and down, up and down...I haven't checked my pictures yet...I know that I got alot of seagulls wing tips...hopefully some part of a whale...

I am not a morning person...

I drove 80 plus miles an hour...to Dana Point, my TomTom wouldn't speak the whole way down because I uploaded it the night before, big mistake...thank God for your directions, and instructions!

Having not been to the festival before...

I parked at the other end of the parking lot...

Thinking I had to put a ticket on my dashboard...

I ran to and from the tackle shop...arriving at my car...minutes till the boat left, to find I didn't have my car keys...

Thank God for my hide-a-key...

Struggling to open it, I grabed my heavy stuff, (do pack light).

I ran back to the tackle shop where "the bratt that gave me my ticket for the whale watching...denied having my keys"!

I'll get you next time mister!

In may I'll book my 4th of July Dinner /Fireworks Cruise...alone:(

Everywhere I go, I tell people how exciting it was to see the Whales, Artists, and Shop owners.

Everyone was so nice and friendly...

"Frank Stockl", a fabulous photographer was generious enough to give me a "one of a kind Christos Picture of three yellow Umbrellas"...I almost cried, twice.

The important point is...I finally saw Whales!, this also is an educational experience, as well as a fund raiser!

Book your trip...maybe I will be there too.

P.S. Thank you Westways Magazine for publishing the article on the Dana Point Whale Watching Festival,

It's a good thing I brought reading material into dad's former office...

I find the most interesting articles...

whilest on the toilet.

I liked the whole thing. The only thing I would add would be a narration that taught something about the whales. Our captain had quite a lot to say about the dolphins, but very little about the whales. Where were they going, what are their feeding habits, breeding areas, and threats they face. I will definitely go again, probably with a couple of my grandchildren.
