1/2 Day on Sum Fun
Sat, Jul 21, 12   12:00 PM sbay0307 Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
This was my second trip on Sum Fun, and each time with limited results - in fact, we only caught one fish between 3 of us. Both times the boat did not have anchovies for bait. Other boats that I've taken out had anchovies, and we were successful. The boat was overcrowded - 56 anglers. Not only was the boat overcrowded for fishing, there was a sign on the boat that read "27 adult life vests". Interesting. I will never take Sum Fun out again.

No whales but lots of dolphins

We didn't see any whales, but were lucky to meet large pods of dolphins.

The boat was nice, and since we had read reviews on Zerve before the trip we didn't set ourselves up to see whales.

One thing that I would have liked though was a note on how we could have gotten another trip since we didn't see any whales. We only thought about that several days after the trip.

Fun but not thrilling

Though I know you can not control if we see whales, it is the whales (not dolphins or sea lions) we pay to see. Otherwise, everyone was friendly and informative.

An Alaskan Cruise was fantastic but...
Sat, Mar 6, 10   9:00 AM SavannahDawn Female 50-59 Local Individual
Everytime the Captain said he spotted whales...they were gone by the time I got to that side of the cruise ship!

At Dana Point...I saw at least five whales, spraying, swimming, diving, and holding their tales above the ocean...like the whales tail charm I have had since I was sixteen from Hawaii.

I will go again, and again. Rain was forcasted...not till our wonderful trip was over. You said it is calmer in the am...with my accupuncture bracelets on, I was greatful to not heave with the swells.

Up and down, up and down...I haven't checked my pictures yet...I know that I got alot of seagulls wing tips...hopefully some part of a whale...

I am not a morning person...

I drove 80 plus miles an hour...to Dana Point, my TomTom wouldn't speak the whole way down because I uploaded it the night before, big mistake...thank God for your directions, and instructions!

Having not been to the festival before...

I parked at the other end of the parking lot...

Thinking I had to put a ticket on my dashboard...

I ran to and from the tackle shop...arriving at my car...minutes till the boat left, to find I didn't have my car keys...

Thank God for my hide-a-key...

Struggling to open it, I grabed my heavy stuff, (do pack light).

I ran back to the tackle shop where "the bratt that gave me my ticket for the whale watching...denied having my keys"!

I'll get you next time mister!

In may I'll book my 4th of July Dinner /Fireworks Cruise...alone:(

Everywhere I go, I tell people how exciting it was to see the Whales, Artists, and Shop owners.

Everyone was so nice and friendly...

"Frank Stockl", a fabulous photographer was generious enough to give me a "one of a kind Christos Picture of three yellow Umbrellas"...I almost cried, twice.

The important point is...I finally saw Whales!, this also is an educational experience, as well as a fund raiser!

Book your trip...maybe I will be there too.

P.S. Thank you Westways Magazine for publishing the article on the Dana Point Whale Watching Festival,

It's a good thing I brought reading material into dad's former office...

I find the most interesting articles...

whilest on the toilet.

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

I liked the whole thing. The only thing I would add would be a narration that taught something about the whales. Our captain had quite a lot to say about the dolphins, but very little about the whales. Where were they going, what are their feeding habits, breeding areas, and threats they face. I will definitely go again, probably with a couple of my grandchildren.

I booked a whale watch trip to get to see whales, in the info they said there would still be some in that time but once in the catamaran they told us there were all gone. If I knew that i wouldnt buy it, i had seen dolphins many times before. I think you should be more honest with your ads.

The trip was nice the catamaran very good and the crew perfect though

This company is so awesome. If you don't see dolphins or whales they will give you a free pass for another trip. But out of 10 excursions, this only happened once. They are the best!

we could see 4 grey whales, a few dolphines and some sea liones. But you need to remember it is totally up to mother nature whether or not we can see those animals. (We saw much more dolphines on our different trip before.) They were very professional - on time and everything.

We took the 10 AM trip on a good weather day. The crew was very prompt in boarding and departing. They were very polite and friendly. They also seemed very experienced and knowledgeable, and gave us a lot of tidbits of information. We were lucky enough to spot 3 gray whales that day. We also saw hundreds of dolphins which came right next to the boat. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend this trip

Awesome time!!

We went out on the 6:30 am trip. To our surprise, this trip had 5 professional deep sea fishing instructors from "Owner" hooks. They gave two fishing classes on board as we got underway. When we were on the fishing beds, these Guys gave awesome advise, tips, and tricks everything, bait size, baiting techniques, casting, even reeling in the "big one"!!!

Great day of fishing!

The captain and deck hands did a great job of taking care of us from start to finish. There was a wide variety of snacks and drinks available at reasonable prices. The deck hands were patient and very helpful throughout the afternoon.

The live sardines were quite large and difficult to deal with. We did not get hardly any bites with that bait. Smaller sardines or maybe even anchovies would have helped us get more bites.

We waited an extra hour to be first in line for the boat to get a good spot. Then we had to rotate around twice during the trip and lost our preferred spots. We would have preferred not to have to rotate since we waited extra to get our preferred spot on the rail.

Overall we had a great time and would do it again.

We did not see whales the Tuesday we went but did see lots of dolphin, sea lion pups, etc. It was a great value. Educational, fun, relaxing, refreshing. In future, we will be taking all our out-of-town visitors!

Nice experience

I would describe this as a nice boat ride in the ocean. People expecting to get a clear view of a whale may be disappointed. Go with an open mind and with some luck you might see one or two from a distance. However its cool to see a number of dolphins and sea lions in the open ocean. Overall, its a fun acitivty. Go prepared with some warm clothing and binoculars for better viewing. The staff on the boat help to keep the trip lively and interesting.

I reccommend this for anyone! My husband and I went on this cruise for our 1 year anniversary. We both thought it was awesome! We were surrounded by 500-1,000 common dolphins! They were playing with the bow of the boat they were jumping all around us and we even saw several mamas with their babies! If you get a chance to go on this cruise do it! We loved it! It was AWESOME! Deffinetly worth the money!!! And the crew was great!
