Besides the great experience on the catamaran and seeing these amazing, beautiful whales I learned a lot too. I cannot recommend this enough, I have shared my pictures and experience with everyone. Am I going again, absolutely!!!!

Everything is great except there are no fish.

Didn't even get one bite. Boat and crew are for the most part ok. But judging by what was caught by all of the fishers on the boat this area is over-fished. Have been out about 6 times over last 15 years and the most I caught was 4 fish on one outing.

I have been wanting to go whale watching for many years. My son treated us to a whale watching tour out of Newport in July. We enjoyed the boat ride, though we didn't see any whales. When I saw that Dana Wharf offered 1/2 price tours I thought we could try it again and that a different tour company might be luckier. I'm so glad we did. Weather was good and of course the best highlight was we saw whales. We sat on top so we could sit rather than stand since we are older. We were a little disappointed as the pilot always seemed to direct the boat in a position where the view of the whales was good for him, but not for some of us who were on a part of the boat that couldn't see as well. Other people near us had the same complaint. Our view was always blocked by other people gathering on the side of the boat the pilot seemed to favor to face the whales, so we just caught glimpses. But since this trip was already an improvement over the trip out of Newport, it made us happy. I would like to try the catamaran, but not sure how to get reservations on it. When I made this reservations, it wasn't revealed we would not be on the catamaran until after the purchase was completed. I'm hoping to use the 1/2 price coupon that was given to us next year for a trip with our grandkids. The pilot also kept talking about the whales like they were separate whales, but we could tell we were just seeing the same ones multiple times.

The captain did a good job of finding the blue whales and bottle nosed dolphins on our trip. We got close enough to get pictures. Amazing creatures!

My wife and I decided to take the whale-watching trip because it was half-price. We are so glad we did! We went on the 2-hour Noon cruise on a beautiful day. We saw 3 blue whales up close and 1 in the distance. What a spectacular sight! The boat was so quiet and everyone on the boat so respectful that we were able to stay near the whales without disturbing them. It was breathtaking! We will definitely do this trip again.

Fun But..

I am older and do not stand well. There was not enough seating unless you were one of the first 20 people in line. I did not realize that the blue whales do not breech so was a little disappointed to only see the curved back a couple of times. The last one showed its tail which was exciting. The guide was very good in following the whale and letting us know what side to watch from. I thought we would see more dolphins but only saw three. The earlier boat saw four whates and more dolpines so I guess it depends on if you are lucky or not. I would like to see the grey whales in March and would use the some company but would make sure I was first in line.

We went out on the Dana Pride which is a well maintained vessel in excellent condition and provides plenty of space for passengers with good views on all sides. As it was the midday sailing we ordered cheeseburgers and cold drinks on board and enjoyed a delicious lunch while seated on the upper deck. Not far out of the harbor we were treated to marvellous close sightings of dolphins and blue whates in great numbers. The Captain's commentary was excellent and he is clearly very knowledgable about the undersea geography and the marine mammals in the area. This is an outing we will repeat,

It was loads of great fun. Learned a lot about marine wildlife too. Very informative guide.

Worth the ticket price. We plan to do it again. Seeing the dolphins, and the Blue whale

out at sea was simply breath taking, and the catamaran ride out on the point of the bow was an adrenaline rush

for me!

this is the third time we have used this organization and the third time it has been a waste of money and time. They stay close enough to shore I could swim and couldn't find a fish if it jumped in the boat. We will never use this company again.

My son and I have had the tradition of taking a fishing trip with Dana Pt Sportfishing ever since he was a little boy and he is now 24! We enjoyed yet another trip this year in spite of not catching any fish this time. The boat burgers are the highlights of the day!

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

Since we're from out of state, we wanted to make sure that we saw some whales on our only whale watching tour. After looking at reviews on the net, we decided to make the drive from San Pedro to Dana Point - the tour said you would see whales, guaranteed. They were not making an empty boast!

The captain and crew went out of their way to point out the pods of dolphins and spent quite a bit of time with them to the delight of everyone on board, then told us that the whales were frequently seen in the dolphins proximity. Soon after that we spotted not one but two blue whales spouting in the distance and set a course for them. He gave a great talk about how they show their fluke and dive deep, staying down for about nine minutes. Sure enough, they came up in different areas and we saw both of them - they remained in the area of the boat and came up a few times for us.

Other tour boats must know that this tour finds the whales because they seemed to congregate around us. A great time was had by all!

Were those blobs in the distance whales?

Although the tour guides were very enthusiastic about sighting two whales, my husband and I could barely see anything. That was the case although we had the best vantage point at the bow of the boat.. Other passengers had the same problem. They tried to take pictures of the whales spouting but the images were so small they looked like dots or were totally invisible.
