Rough weather, but Cpt Jack found whales!
Sat, Mar 1, 14   8:00 AM rodsteel Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
It was raining and rough weather to start. We weren't sure they would go out in the rain, but they had a full ship, so they went! It was fun, and wet (mostly due to rain). Water was choppy, but cant blame that on the sea men. They did a great job teaching about whales and their migration routes. We did see a few groups of greys, and our Capt got us to a group that were doing fluke (tail) breaches! That was awesome to see. My girls (13 & 16) LOVED it and would love to go again... when it's warmer and dry! No dolphins on our trip. :(

Best money spent in a long time...
1/2 Priced Catamaran Adventure Whale Watch Cruises

Needed something to break up the typical mid-week day-dates I've allowed us to fall into.

When I saw the 1/2 price whale watching (pronounced: dolphin watching) tour, I knew it was worth a shot. Low and behold, we lucked out and had one of the best days of the year for an ocean boat trip. No whales, but great people on board, and a very friendly crew that truely seems to enjoy thier work!

thanks a million!

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

Don't forget to take binoculars as it is hard to get close to the whales they keep swimming underwater while feeding so you don't know where they will pop up next. Also you have to be quick with your camera and have a good zoom feature or else pictures won't turn out very good. Don't go below unless you only want to see other peoples rear ends.

My son and I visited some family and friends in California. We had a very full schedule with very few off days. We had planned on going to an old gold mine, but it was out of season, so I got on the internet and found this whale watching cruise.

What a great idea that was! The staff on the cruise was so polite and friendly! We didn't find any whales that day, but we did see some spectacular dolphins! They were so close to the boat, that when they splashed along the side, some ocean water hit us both! (not much, just a splash) We really enjoyed the 2 hours out on the ocean. . . Next time we get out towards California, we will DEFINATELY go again!

Internet booked Catamaran whale watch for $35/person (3 seniors). They called & cancelled morning of cruise - re-booked us on the cheaper, "big" boat a half hour later than original schedule. Said we were due a refund for the cost difference - get it at check in. Guess not enough Cat people - 'cause weather perfect. Got to desk for check in, they refused to give refund. Said rate for seniors the same on both cruises. That was incorrect - explained we had a coupon, quoted coupon code, and clearly explained cost was $7/person less on the big boat. They asked us to produce the coupon (an internet-offer coupon?). They know darn well there's 4 - 5 such coupons all over the place on the internet. RIPPED OFF for $21. Why? No one manages seating when on boat...two people claiming the 6-person tables on top, people laying down across 3-4 seating spots, people standing & holding on to poles & things as a result. Crew didn't care. stupid. Saw two grey whales breaching in the distance - boat never moved closer to see them. Why? Other boats did... good commentary while cruising. pretty good drinks - great drink prices. Not bad. not great.

I had a really good time. We didn't see any whales but it was past the time of migration so to be expected. We saw sea lions up close, and tons of common dolphins, some bottle nose dolphins, and a lot of birds diving into the water. It was more than I expected, the dolphins were swimming so close to the boat and jumping out of the water. It was a lot of fun and worth the price (a lot cheaper than other places in the area).

I took my elderly Aunt on the two hour whate watching trip and had a great time. I went aboard thinking I would probably see one dolphin being it was at the end of whale season, but immediately we spotted some seals. An hour into our journey we got notice there was a pod of dolphins up ahead and we headed right towards them. Soon we spotted the dolphins and the sight was amazing because this was a whole heard of dolphins and we were right in the middle of them. The dolphins were all around us as far as the eye could see in every direction. Though we never saw a whale the trip was worth every penny and I would highly reccommend the adventure. The captian and staff on the vessel were very informative telling us all about these dolphins. It was clear they were just as amazed as the passengers saying they have never encountered so many dolphins in all the years they have been doin this trip. It was estimated there were at least 7 thousand dolphins. I took video and am going to put it on youtube. search Dana Point Dolphins on youtube and you can view the footage.

Enjoyable, Affordable Afternoon on the Water
Mon, Jan 9, 12   12:00 PM RobertZabel Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My wife and I are spending most of the winter in this area rather than in Kansas City. My cousin and his wife visited us and wanted to see the whales. We found the Dana Point site online and decided it sounded better than the site downtown. We had gone to Catalina before from Dana Point. We enjoyed the trip very much. Got to see Bottle-nosed Dolphins, at least one Gray Whale (on several occasions) and another species of dolphin (can't remember the name) that looked white. Everyone in our group thought the trip was well worth the fee, and we all would do it again.

Dana Wharf Whale Watching

This was my second whale watching trip with Dana Wharf and once again it was an enjoyable afternoon. The knowledgeable captain narrated much of the trip teaching us about the marine life we saw.
