Any day spent on a boat is a good day
1/2 Priced Whale Watch (past event)

When I decided to go whale watching on Dec. 29 with my daughter, son-in-law and grandsons (ages 6 & 2), it was not with the anticipation of seeing whales as very few had, at that time, been sited this far south. The appeal of the trip was being outside, doing something different as a family and perhaps seeing some wildlife. The captain and crew did everything possible to make the day amusing, informative and memorable. We spent a lot of time with a pod of dolphins which was a lot of fun for adults and kids alike. Whales or no, we all enjoyed the outing immensely and will definitely go out again later in the season in hopes of seeing whales. (But if we don't see any next trip, I know that we will still have a great time!)

Fun time on Dana Wharf whale watch

We were hoping to see grey whales but were just a little too early yet. Did see a blue, several sharks, several playful sea lions, and lots of dolphins that played around the boat and rode the bow. The captain's information as we went along was very interesting. We all had a great time and would do it again.

If only the whales had cooperated.

The boat trip alone is great, but it would have helped if the whales had cooperated and been present. We did see some California sea lions and the discussion about them and how they are different from seals was informative. We didn't see any other marine life except for sea birds until the very end when the boat ran thru some bait fish being chased by some dolphins. There was a potential sighting of a whale, but it was already too far behind us as we entered the harbor and we couldn't take the time to verify what it was. The captain made sure that we had the opportunity to go out again free of charge, which he really didn't have to do.

Working with the people of Zerve was a pleasant experience. They patiently answered all my questions. When rain threatened our day to go out whale watching, they patiently helped out by moving our date from a Saturday to a Monday. When our party increased from two to four persons, there was no problem getting the extra tickets. I appreciated the attached map and instructions to get to the Dana Point wharf.

Thank you all. We had a great time. I recommend this activity for everyone, all ages, all backgrounds.

Staff was well informed and interesting. We knew it was early in the season for the grey whales and we did get to see 4 varieties of dolphins.

Very nice experience.

The boat captain was professional, courteous, knowledgable, and dedicated. We did find a whale to look at and that was exciting for someone who has never seen one before. The boat ride alone was a great way to pass the time. So even if we hadn't found a whale, the ride was nice. The price was not out of line. My wife and my son had a good time too. My wife did have one complaint. According to the trip description, brownies were supposed to have been handed out but we didn't get any.

We couldn't have picked a better day. The weather was beautiful and we saw all you can see on an outing like this. We actually saw a young blue whale (about 70' long) feeding in an area for about 1/2 hour. We even saw the fluke when he dove. Also saw seal lions, pelicans and various birds. One of the most exciting moments was the pod of dolphins (it looked like over 100) who were swimming and playing along with and around the catamaran. The staff was pleasant and very informative.

We saw one blue whale...way, way in the distance, and the crew tried really hard to "catch it" before it made a dive, but didn't succeed.

We had a wonderful run with a huge pod of dolphins though...a great experience.

The crew was very jovial and accommodating. I would recommend, even if you don't see a whale!!

The cruise was everything we had hoped for, except someone forgot to tell the whales of our rondavue point., HA! Never the less, it was very enjoyable, & relaxing.

We intend to book another cruise on our next trip.

We learned of this excursion while guests at the Laguna Surf Resort. We spent a great two hours in search of dolphins and whales. We ended up in the midst of a large pod of common dolphins which were playful and entertaining. On the way back to shore we were lucky to spot a fin whale and observe its activities .

The cruise was comfortable, and the crew friendly and helpful. There was ample room for the passengers, so the visibility was great. I would recommend this cruise at full price; but at half price, it was an exceptionally good deal.

Excellent Catamaran Adventure Cruises trip

Our 3-generation group (Father, Mother, 2 Daughters and 1 granddaughter) had a terrific time on our whale watching trip on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009. The weather was perfect, with warm, sunny sky, very light breeze and light, glassy seas. The boat was nice and roomy, and certainly didn't feel crowded with around 29 pasengers and crew of 4. All of the crew were very friendly and helpful. The marine biologist on board, Morgan Ritchie, and her assistant were very knowledgeable and added a lot to the trip. We even bought one of Morgan's excellent photos on the way in. We saw three different blue whales, which are awesome creatures. We also saw a mola mola (ocean sunfish) near the boat and a large marlin that jumped clear out of the water several times, though it was too far away to photograph. And, of course, we saw common dolphins - hundreds of them! Many of the dolphins were accompanied by their young ones, as they swam right next to the boat and jumped around in large areas near the boat. Almost everywhere we looked, there were dolphins. My old digital camera was way too slow on the shutter speed to get the really good shots of the whales venting upon surfacing or having their tails high in the air as they started deep dives, but my daughter got some really great photos. All-in-all, it was a wonderful trip, and I highly recommend it. We'll be back for grey whale season.

hotter than heck but the fish were biting. Everysingle fish I caught had to be thrown back because they were 11 inches. Ilove being on the boat out on the ocean even though I did not bring home anything this time. Everyone is helpful.
