Saw one gray whale at a distance but the best part was when we in the middle of a large pod ( estimated at 500) dolphins. They put on a show! Mamas with their babies jumping and some dancing backwards on their tails. The captain was informative and friendly. Great fun!

Great knowledge of whale's behaviour

More than 5 whale sightings and 3 tail showings in a 2 hour trip. ended with dolphins dancing around our boat and sighting of a sunfish. Very good trip with kudos to the knowledge of the captain in predicting whale behaviors. However, not recommended for kids under 4 as they are unlikely to experience anything.

Very nice facility, easy check in and a nice boat. Crew was great and the captain was very personable and informative while we were out. The coast is beautiful and well worth the trip just by itself. Seeing wildlife was great. We saw a whale and some very acrobatic dolphins. I learned a lot on the trip and would highly recommend.

Beautiful ride down the shore

I would recommend this activity as you get a beautiful ride down the shore and get to see lots of dolphins and sea otters! I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see a whale but understand you have no control over that however definitely worth the trip.

Two of us went on Jan 2nd at 10am. The fog had gone out to sea and it was cold but sunny. The captain was in touch with other boats so we headed to where a whale was reported. She was pretty far out but we could see the water sprout from her blowhole. That was exciting, but then we saw two on the land side of the boat spouting water. One had to catch up with the one further away, but then they were swimming in tandom and decided to go deep for food. THAT'S WHEN THE TAILS COME UP! It was spectacular to see both of them swimming and diving together.

The captain gave us a history lesson and explained what the whales werie doing, where they were going & why, and when they would return. He was very good!

My friend had gone out several times but only seen the spouts. Boy was she excited to see the tails! I came to CA for the Rose Bowl Parade & then we decided to go whale watching on the next day. I'm so glad we did! I will always remember the whales much more than the parade. A wonderful way to begin the new year.

The tour operator and his assistant were knowledgeable. We wanted to ask some questions but the tour operators stayed inside the cabin the entire time but of course they had to operate the boat and look for whales. Otherwise it was a fun trip and the operators really wanted to find whales for us which was much appreciated. Kind of expensive too..

The captain and crew are filled with interesting knowledge of all forms of ocean life and the current status of our ecosystem. If you can't find the whales, you will see playful dolphins, seals and pelicans. Clean and not expensive.

2 hours for a wonderful trip is worth every penny. Plus you can get 1/2 price ticket if you don't see the whales.

Wonderful New Years Day watching dolphins & whales

Really enjoyed this whale watching trip! Nice boat with plenty of room so everyone could see the animals. Our guide was very informative about the wildlife and considerate of them. Saw a pod of dolphins who played behind our boat and a pair of grey whales. We're back in SoCal in August and plan on doing this whale watching trip again - I want to see blue whales!

NIce way to end the year with a bang!!

I was visiting Los Angeles and decided that it would be nice to take a whale watching excursion with my family since we have never done that before. I selected Dana Wharf Sport-fishing and Whale Watching because they were the most economical and by coincidence they had a 1/2 price tuesday promo. Their location was easy to find and the booking was flawless. We boarded on time and the boat looked well maintained. I had low expectations -regarding actually seeing a whale- since no sights had been reported recently. However, during the tour we first saw a school of sea lions swimming playfully around our boat. That was great fun, they are amazing swimmers. Several minutes later we got lucky and a grey whale appeared in the horizon. Our captain sped the boat to catch up with her. She was swimming very casually and did not seemed to be bothered by us. It was an amazing sight of an unbelievable animal. She was huge!. We stayed with her for several minutes until she finally dived out of sight. After that the boat turned around and started the trip back to the pier. But the fun was not finished yet: suddenly a huge group of dolphins appear behind us and started to play on the waves created by our boat. That was a great show that those dolphins put up. We enjoyed greatly.

After all that we finally reached the pier to disembark. Overall it was a great experience that I would recommend to all. Just a word of caution: It does get very cold out there. Have some extra coats available.

We had a limited amount of time and thought this would be good use of it. We saw gray whale, bottle nose dolphin, common dolphin and sea otters. It was great for a bunch of land lubbers! We really enjoyed watching the dolphins play on the wake of the boat!

Definitely worth going! Saw a grey whale and followed it for a time. The tour guide was very informative about the whales and dolphins that we saw. The ride was smooth and I did not feel any motion sickness. It got pretty cold so I'm glad I wore a coat. It was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.

From making the reservations, to adding party members, to boarding and the trip, everything went smooth, crew was helpful and friendly, whale cooperated as did the dolphins. It was a day the family will always remember.
