I loved seeing the sea lions and common dolphins, it was definitely exciting and fun. The entire party that came with me to celebrate my Birthday all enjoyed those same animal sightings. We were disappointed that we didn't get to see any whales but understand that it is nature and there's no control over that.

However, there is control over the rudeness of the ticket takers and ripping people off. Allow me to explain: I purchased 8 tickets and arrived with 7 people. The 8th individual had a likely possibility of not making it on time BUT was still in route to attempt it. When I went to collect my 8 tickets, I was only given 7 because that's how many people were "there." I asked if I could have my 8th ticket and was told "semi-politely" that I couldn't have the 8th ticket if I was going to "re-sell" it. 1st off, I never indicated I was going to "resell" it. 2nd, I paid for the ticket, if I want to invite a total stranger and give my purchased ticket to someone else there, I think that is my right... I chose the other 6 people who were coming with me, why couldn't I pick the 7th, why is it the ticket takers decision all the sudden? 3rd when I was shocked and awed by the refusal of the ticket I asked for it again to at least have as a souvenir(even asked to pick it up after the ride) and was told no. I asked then if it was a wasted ticket and that no one was going to use it and was told yes. BUT when my 8th member arrived (BEFORE THE BOAT LEFT) she was denied because the boat was "full"... so, I got ripped off, my friend drove 1.5 hrs (round trip 3 hrs) for nothing and I didn't even get thank you when exiting the boat.

So my recap is this. The sea life and the boat ride were great. The customer service, the deception and the thieving, were not so great. I'd recommend a tour like this again but I don't know that I would recommend this dishonest company.

My husband and I grew up in San Diego and have lived the last 10 years in this area.

Neither of us has ever gone on a whale watching event. We wanted to do something interesting to celebrate our daughter's 17th birthday that was outdoors and camera friendly. We had the most amazing day from the weather to the two whales to the thousand dolphin. The crew was extremely professional and personable at all times looking out for the best experience possible for their clients. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience. We will definitely repeat this event and be a tourist more often. Thank you so much for the beautiful day.

Call it a dolphin-watching cruise; then, people won't feel let down when there are no whales and excited when there are.

Good activity to keep kids attention

This is the second time we've been on this trip, once with blue whales and once with grey whales. It's a good activity for kids, as it's short enough to keep their attention and there are many different attractions. You have the whole being on a boat experience, which for some kids was more interesting than the animals themselves. The whales are interesting, but the kids sometime have a hard time focusing on the sea long enough to actually see them. The dolphins are usually more interesting because they are visible for long periods of time.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is no guaranty that you'll actually see a whale, especially late in the season. We were the first group to see a whale in 19 trips. I don't know if I would be so positive about the trip if we didn't see any animals.

Great Ride for Sunset Viewing and Whales!

The boat ride was great. Left the dock promptly, Captain & his mate "Lucky" were very personable, great variety of food and snacks on board (and extremely cost effective). Was smooth ride, able to see all the coastal hills and watch a beautiful sunset. Captain was constantly looking for sealife we could appreciate. Saw sea lions AND about 3 Minke whales. Awesome! Trip was a solid 2+ hours. Well worth the price! Definitely recommended! thank you! CH & BG, Long Island, NY

Whale and Dolphin Watching Adventure Tour

While I understand and accept the fact that this is a nature trip and the company does not have control over what kind and how many different animals may be seen on the tour, we were mislead to believe there would be a good chance of seeing marine life, specifically, whales. However, we later learned that our trip was scheduled during an "off-season" for seeing whales. Just be honest. We still would've gone on the trip, but now I feel duped!

Good fishing for kids

Well, this is the second time within a month my son and his friend went. My son invited another friend as well. Although we did not catch as many mackeral as we did before, the red tide was gone and we caught a croker, a big sheephead, and a couple of calico bass. We caught about 5 mackeral and two smelt we thought were big enough to keep. This time, I think the crew was heavier. They had one new guy who I thought was more into work than ensuring the beginner to more advanced fisherman had a good experience. For example, he was a bit rude when he knew we were going to keep our mackeral and smelt. He could have been nicer. The other two young crew members though were equally as hard working and as friendly and helpful as they were the time before. The captain was great as well as he was last time. He seemed interested in the customers having a good time by catching fish with as much help from their crew as possible.

I will try to get my own equipment next time as renting for four people at $12 each gets expensive.

I will definitely keep this adventure on my list of things to do and I will recommend our scout troop go on this soon.

Holy Mackerel!

Me and my son and his friend had a great evening fishing. While everyone else seemed to snub their noses as the mackeral, we soon realized that with the red tide that set in, nobody was going to catch much if anyting. My son did catch a sheephead (good size). And, people were getting several bites at the bottom, nobody was pulling up much. However, I told my son and his friend to go for the mackeral about 20 feet below the boat. We pulled up fish after fish. Mackerel put up a great fight. Although I was away when they cooked and ate them, they said they were not bad. I think the reason they did not taste any better was because we left too many bones in our filets. We caught about 30 of them so we did not want to pay the $1/fish to have the crew filet them. This would have been nearly the price of another ticket, so we did it ourselves. My hands smelled like fish the entire next day, but good thing I did not have to work. We are not experienced fileters (sp?) so next time if I will invest in a better knife or If I have to work the next day will seriously think about paying the $1/fish to have them fileted. Or, I will simply only keep the big mackerel - there is no size limit.

The crew was great as described in all of the other reviews. They were truly there to help. They were competent, hard working, and friendly.

It was a perfect day weather wise and we took the first trip out in the morning so the sea was calm. Although we had been looking forward to seeing the whales and did not, we were fortunate to see a very large pod of Common Dolphin which made the trip worth while.

I would recommend the experience.

Successful Whale Watch

Our group was father, mother and adult son. Departed Dana Point appx. 12:00 noon 3/21/2010. Spotted (1) Gray whale about 1/2 way . Our craft maintained a safe distance from the whale, however various other craft converged on the sighting and probably compromised the sighting. That's OK, we all like whales!
