Good fishing for kids

Well, this is the second time within a month my son and his friend went. My son invited another friend as well. Although we did not catch as many mackeral as we did before, the red tide was gone and we caught a croker, a big sheephead, and a couple of calico bass. We caught about 5 mackeral and two smelt we thought were big enough to keep. This time, I think the crew was heavier. They had one new guy who I thought was more into work than ensuring the beginner to more advanced fisherman had a good experience. For example, he was a bit rude when he knew we were going to keep our mackeral and smelt. He could have been nicer. The other two young crew members though were equally as hard working and as friendly and helpful as they were the time before. The captain was great as well as he was last time. He seemed interested in the customers having a good time by catching fish with as much help from their crew as possible.

I will try to get my own equipment next time as renting for four people at $12 each gets expensive.

I will definitely keep this adventure on my list of things to do and I will recommend our scout troop go on this soon.

Holy Mackerel!

Me and my son and his friend had a great evening fishing. While everyone else seemed to snub their noses as the mackeral, we soon realized that with the red tide that set in, nobody was going to catch much if anyting. My son did catch a sheephead (good size). And, people were getting several bites at the bottom, nobody was pulling up much. However, I told my son and his friend to go for the mackeral about 20 feet below the boat. We pulled up fish after fish. Mackerel put up a great fight. Although I was away when they cooked and ate them, they said they were not bad. I think the reason they did not taste any better was because we left too many bones in our filets. We caught about 30 of them so we did not want to pay the $1/fish to have the crew filet them. This would have been nearly the price of another ticket, so we did it ourselves. My hands smelled like fish the entire next day, but good thing I did not have to work. We are not experienced fileters (sp?) so next time if I will invest in a better knife or If I have to work the next day will seriously think about paying the $1/fish to have them fileted. Or, I will simply only keep the big mackerel - there is no size limit.

The crew was great as described in all of the other reviews. They were truly there to help. They were competent, hard working, and friendly.

It was a perfect day weather wise and we took the first trip out in the morning so the sea was calm. Although we had been looking forward to seeing the whales and did not, we were fortunate to see a very large pod of Common Dolphin which made the trip worth while.

I would recommend the experience.

Successful Whale Watch

Our group was father, mother and adult son. Departed Dana Point appx. 12:00 noon 3/21/2010. Spotted (1) Gray whale about 1/2 way . Our craft maintained a safe distance from the whale, however various other craft converged on the sighting and probably compromised the sighting. That's OK, we all like whales!

I thought the crew was very nice and the boat was well equipped. People never moved so it was a bit hard to move to better viewing areas if you didn't start there. We only saw briefly one small whale, so it was pretty disappointing since we saw on the news there were a lot of whale sightings this year and that is why we booked.

While we didn't see any whales, we did see several large pods of dolphins who swam alongside the boat. The guide was very informative about the marine life we saw and answered any questions we had.

My husband and I took our twenty nine year old daughter and we all loved the trip. We saw a big pod of dolphins, with mothers and babies, and a beautiful blue whale. The captain got us as close as possible to the whale and even told us what side of the boat to stand on to get the best pictures.

A Very Nice Excursion

Although the ride was a bit chilly (you may want to add on an extra layer to those you plan on wearing), the crew was very friendly and the scenery was great. We saw a number of gray whales and the boat's pilot did a nice job putting us in a reasonable position to view them. We had a great time.

Captain sounded doubtful at first that we would have any whale sightings. We saw some dolphins but the boat was going too slow to really watch them bow ride. We finally saw some whales breaching, which was fantastic. I just wish the captain didn't keep turning the boat to get the whales only on the right side, when we spotted them on the left side of the boat and that's where we were sitting to get pictures.

Good trip overall though.

This experience of fishing has created excitement in my kids to go for fishing.

My 9 yr old daughter caught 10 and my son 6 yrs old caught 5 - half the time he was crying :-)

The best part is the location. No worries of looking for the fish the captain takes us to a place where there is fish and we catch -simple and easy. The crew is very helpful and full of energy. They are there whenever you need them.

I have already recommended it to my friends and we will certainly go again.
