Tour wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. Tour guide wasn't a stand up comedian. Although AJ was very knowledgeable about the city, the tour wasn't very funny. I would of like to of gone around the city with a funny man like it was advertised. If any one goes on this tour make sure you get a comedian as your tour guide before booking. Still it wasn't a bad tour and it will teach you a lot about the city.

Definitely recommend this tour! It was a good overview of the central SF area, long, but leasurely walk with interesting facts about the people and the history of the city.

A great tour!

I've been coming to the Bay Area at least once a year for the past 20 years. I always stay with relatives who reside in the Peninsula. Although I've ventured to the city every now and then, I never did a tour nor explore in detail what the city has to offer. I did a ghost tour which toured a small part of the city at night and I did an Alcatraz tour. The reason for taking this tour was that my son-in-law has never been to the Bay Area and I thought this would be a good way for him to become acquainted with the city. The tour was very interesting and our guide, (forgive me but I forgot her name) was very good, funny and witty. She was very knowledgable and gave many historical backgrounds and short bios of persons of interest and the visual aids were great! And it was just a great day for walking! If there is one drawback is that where the tour starts is NOT where it ends so one would have to keep this in mind if you have a car to park. Maybe it was my fault for not checking, but I wouldn't let this deter anyone from checking out this tour. Might consider the others in the future.

The walking tour mixes history and fun for a fun-filled afternoon. I learned a lot about the city, saw things I'd never seen before and enjoyed myself tremendously. Thanks for a great tour!

31/2 tour full of fun fascinating facts & figures!

AJ was our guide who arrived promptly at the arranged meeting spot. The total group numbered ~15. The tour left all together and we learnt much about the Nob Hill area and the Big Four. It is mainly historical information dotted with facts and figures, even photographs shown by the guide in a big folder which was a great supplement to the spoken word (projected on a small loud speaker worn by the guide). The meeting spot was the highest point so the walk goes downhill from there (no pun intended) winding its way down through historical hotels (great for potty stops) and along the edge of the touristy side of China Town, through the 'cold black heart' of the Financial District, back via the magic elevator to the real gardens and alleyways of China Town following much of the Barbary Coast Trail. Again, lots of fascinating information shared along the route such as history of local dignatories, architecture, sculptures, cable cars, 1906 earthquake, fires and rebuilds, local chinese history (and persecution). From China town we moved into the North Beach (Italian District), stopping to learn about the many famous writers and Beat movement (City Lights Bookstore & Vesuvio), and the tour completes in Washington Square, where you learn about yet another amazing SF inhabitant, Lillie Hitchcock Coit. The tour took 3 & 1/2 hours so wear comfy shoes as you are on your feet the whole way! Thankfully it is downhill for most of the way but you have to get to the top by yourself! Great tour guide (who only dropped 2 major hints about tipping), great information, great tour, great city. So glad we did this, would highly recommend it, and do it again on my next visit to San Francisco!

Great info; HORRIBLE jokes

We really enjoyed the historical info, but the "comic" material was painful and in some instances offensive ("they don't read in Oakland"). Would NEVER recommend this unless/until assured that the "comedy" had been eliminated from the business plan. Just awful. Grimaces. Wincing.

We are former residents doing tourist activities. The tour is fun, informative and good exercise. The guide (AJ) was interesting, well informed and fun. Food stops were interesting and tasty. Another review complained that the stops were open to the public, but I would not have gone down that alley on my own and I would not have chosen that Dim Sum spot myself, but I would eat there again! We will probably do another tour the next time we are in town.

I called and requested this tour for a Saturday and AJ was more than accomodating. There turned out to be a total of 10 on the tour. I learned so much and had so much fun. I see the city in a different light now. I tried things I never would have, gone places I never would have, and learned things I never would have. I am really hoping to come back and partcipate in some of the other tours in the future!

Best Way to Explore San Francisco!

We're so glad we booked this tour. I was traveling with two college age kids and we were looking for a fun, informative way to explore the city. "The Whole Shebang" tour was a great way to go. Our guide, AJ, was fantastic and provided a very interesting look at the city's rich history with the right dose of humor. We explored four neighborhoods and learned things we probably wouldn't have known if we did this ourselves. Highly recommend it!
