Best Way to Explore San Francisco!

We're so glad we booked this tour. I was traveling with two college age kids and we were looking for a fun, informative way to explore the city. "The Whole Shebang" tour was a great way to go. Our guide, AJ, was fantastic and provided a very interesting look at the city's rich history with the right dose of humor. We explored four neighborhoods and learned things we probably wouldn't have known if we did this ourselves. Highly recommend it!

My daughter and I had a great time on this tour. We found it a great way to see some of the major areas of the city up close while getting a history lesson along the way. Our guide was funny and informative -- and she didn't make us walk up the really big hills! I would totally recommend this tour. Thank you!

It was a cold and rainy day, but we laughed and learned a lot about parts of the city.

Interesting, informative and down hill

Was interesting and informative, though not much funnier than other sight seeing tours I’ve taken (but then how funny can you make the 1906 earth quake and fire which figures big in the history of Nob Hill, Chinatown and North Beach). Being in the early stages of Parkinson’s Disease (movement disorder) I’m always concerned about activity level – the tour was accurately described for time and distance (starting on Nob Hill it is pretty much all down hill). For those familiar with Road Scholar (previously Elderhostel) I would rate it as a 3-1/2 activity level. Pace was good and allowed for taking photos without feeling I was holding up the group or missing any of the guides presentation.

Is it really worth the money?

To start with I have to say, that I liked the tour in general. Also the idea that every tour guide is a stand up comedian seemed to be a ingenious innovation.

However, in my mind the tour could not live up to what it promised. Yes, there were games we played, yes, some of us got to perform for the rest of the group a little and ,yes, there was chocolate as a reward. On the negative side, all the jokes seemed to be rehearsed and learned by heart instead of granting the tour guide/comedian a little more intellectual freedom to come up with his/her own ideas which would have made the experience livelier.

About the visited locatoins and the given information, though, I cannot say anything negative - these were as expected. Taking into consideration that the city offers free tours to these places and that the comedy-factor is not really that distinguishing my conlusion is that the tour does not have a good value-for-money proportion.

Thus, I would not recommend it to my friends or anybody!

AJ was an outstanding tour guide, she made all of us feel at ease and kept the pace of things going so we did not get bored or miss an opportunity to learn some fascinating facts or tidbits. When Jane, my wife, got back home she immediately started looking up stories about the Emperor (this may become a little dangerous, especially if she tries to print her own money). She is now a royal convert and I got major points for booking this tour as part of our 23rd anniversary celebration. Peace

Lots of knowledge

I had been to San Francisco a half dozen times before but had never taken a tour. Learned a lot of facts and interesting info. Enjoyed all the various areas that we walked through.

The negative was at the end. We knew we would end up far from where we started. I asked about how do we get back and was off handed told to take a bus or cab. I am unfamiliar with city buses and decided to take a cab. Had no idea where to find one, and then I saw one, it was always full (this was rush hour). We ended up waiting for over 30 minutes before we found one.

AJ did a wonderful job. Her puns are wicked. I was a very hot day yet we all survived well and my sister and brother-in-law and I were still able to walk more than another mile to their hotel. I saw the write-up in the Chronicle -- timely happenstance.
