Chelsea Market/MP District Disappointment

If you are expecting a market on the scale of la Boqueria in Barcelona then this is not it. It's a very commercial market in an interesting old building, which has sympathetically been renovated to retain some of the original features, but the individual shops make for mostly a sterile experience. This is countered by a standup comic who doubles as our guide on the days he doesn't have a gig. The Meat Packing District accessed by a walk along the High-line was interesting and our final stop in an old butchers shop for a tasting was excellent.

I loved this tour because there are a variety of different tastings but you don't have to worry too much about weather as it is mostly indoors at the market. There was a brief stint on the High Line park, which we thought was a great way to restore an old but very cool railway line. Our guide, Cindy, was great! She is super enthusiastic and seems to be loved by all the shop owners/vendors. This makes a difference. We have been on tours in other cities where the shop owners have seemed annoyed by the guide and that can be really awkward. I would recommend this tour, it was my favorite in NY so far. I've done the Central Village/Soho and the Grenwich Village tour. I would like to take Cindy's Grenwich Village tour - we had another guide when we did Grenwich Village and it was just OK. I would do it again but ask for Cindy this time. If you like food, you will have fun!

My son, who is attending Chef school in Canada and I, who can't boil water without burning it, signed up for the Chelsea Market/Meatpacking District Food Tasting Tour. Despite our vastly different knowledge about / interest in food, we both thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The guide was friendly, funny, and very knowledgeable. The food was great, the venue is fascinating and the pace was perfect.

I had an amazing time on this tour! I feel that when I am in another country I should sample their local cuisine and this gave me the perfect opportunity to do that! I wish I could have done more than one tour, but money and time constraints did not allow for that. My boyfriend particularly enjoyed the cultural aspects, learning about the history of the buildings, area and the high line.

a lot of fun, great sample of foods enough for lunch, loads of historical information on the Markets, High Line and meat packing district. Very interesting and enjoyable. Dianna was informative and funny - not many women can be comediac well but Dianne did it with style! Thanks for a great experience.
