Makes Chinatown NOT SCARY!

I absolutely loved this tour. I moved to NYC a year ago from LA and have always been intimidated by Chinatown. This tour offers fantastic sit-down meals, covers an array of cultures/cuisines & even sneaks in a little history of the area as well. I would absolutely recommend to friends & will definitely be re-visiting some of the spots when visitors come to town (now that I look like I know what I'm doing).

Chinatown Food Tour

My boyfriend signed us up for this food tour for our anniversary and it was the greatest gift. You go to a dim sum place, a Peking duck place, a Cantonese restaurant and a bakery. The food was absolutely delicious. Bert, our tour guide, knew so much history and emphasized the authenticity of the food. Overall a great time and we got to take home the rest of the Peking duck to have for dinner!

Can't recommend this tour enough, Burt our tour guide was awesome, he really put the cherry on top of the sundae. I wanted to visit Chinatown but know I wouldn't have gotten anything out of it if I hadn't gone on this tour. I was able to sample tons of different foods and got a brief historical/clutural briefing which heightened the experience of sampling the food. Plus our tour guide ate regularly at each of the establishments we went, you could see his excitement & joy over the food we were tasting and the neighborhood we were visiting. The food was great, with lots of variety, and perfect portions so that you could enjoy the whole tour. I will definetley go on another tour with this copy in the future.

Can't say enough good things about this experience...

Tour guide (Bert) was super personable & funny. Told us so many interesting things about the neighborhood & the food.

Fantastic food. Definitely wasn't hungry at the end of the day. The peking duck was my favorite part.

The pace was perfect. Didn't feel rushed, but also didn't get bored.

Group size was nice. Small but not awkwardly small. Felt comfortable around everyone.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent Chinatown food tour. This was our fourth Foods of NY tour, and we considered it one of the best. Bert (sp?) our guide was terrific--engaging, informative, thoughtful, humorous, everything you'd want in a tour guide. This tour is a bit different from the other tours offered by Foods of NY. Rather than mainly enjoying tastings "on the street," the Chinatown tour includes three substantial in-restaurant tastings and one "on the street' dessert. First stop was Dim Sum GoGo, where we had the best dim sum we've ever had. Who knew how delicious dim sum could be when it hasn't been sitting on steam carts for hours? This dim sum is all ordered "on demand," so you order what you want and out the dumplings come, fresh, delicious, practically translucent, and not the least bit gummy. We loved all five dumplings we sampled and felt that the portion was quite substantial. Our second stop was for Peking duck and was also outstanding. Our third sit-down tasting was at a Cantonese restaurant where we had a scrumptious eggplant/veggie dish and fried rice that didn't look (or taste) anything like fried rice I've eaten in my life. Just wonderful! Finally, we ended with a warm egg custard tart, which added a lovely sweet touch. Interspersed with the wonderful food were Bert's entertaining and fascinating stories and anecdotes about the Chinatown neighborhood, its history and culture. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Had a great time on this tour. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. As a local, learned so much about a neighborhood I thought I already knew. The food was delicious and our guide gave us lots of tips on other places to try in the future for different specialties to make further culinary exploration easier and more accessible. Will definitely be taking another tour soon and hope to have Brett as my guide again!

The Chinatown Tour was the best food tour I've ever been on. The food was plentiful, delicious and varied. But the best part of our tour was our guide Burt. I learned so much about Chinatown, the food culture, the history and the traditions because Burt kept things interesting. His sense of humor is also a big plus. He is an asset to the tour company and the next time I'm in town I'll be sure to book another tour with him as my guide.

We had Rahim once before on a tour of Soho and really enjoyed him. This tour was a little different, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be going back to a couple of the restaurants. DimSum Gogol was a favorite as was ABC and their delicious eggplant dish. We look forward to returning to New York and revisiting some of the tours we've done before since we have now done all of them. We recommend this company to anyone going to New York or locals, many of whom have never heard of these tours.
