Informative, delicious cultural tour

Bert, our friendly, upbeat, VERY knowledgeable tour guide set the tone for a wonderful food, cultural experience in Chinatown.I could have eaten dumplings all day, but then would have missed my first time eating Peking Duck. Enjoyed learning the process of preparing the dish. More time there rather than the Malaysian restaurant would have been preferred. Dessert delicious. Loved learning about the history of Chinatown. My group of 4 friends agreed we would do this tour again.

We met Bert at the dim sum restaurant. He guided us through the meals and the streets of Chinatown, taking us into places we never would have found (or entered) on our own, and telling us the history of Chinatown. It was obvious that he both knew and loved the area, the people, the culture, and especially the food. We enjoyed delicious dim sum (I went back the next day with friends to eat there again), superbly prepared and presented peking duck, a marvelous Malaysian dish (I lived in Malaysia many years ago and can attest to the authenticity of the food there), and even a delicious dessert (Asian sweets are not generally acceptable to American palates). I liked the filling, but the crust was absolutely to die for. Believe me, you WILL get enough to eat on this tour! We also visited a tea and Chinese medicine store -- we got food for the stomach and food for the soul. Thank you, Bert, for being such an excellent guide!

My friends and i thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Raheem, was very knowledgeable, friendly and fun. He made every effort to make sure all of us on the tour were comfortable and had a good time. The food was very good and was plentiful and our guide gave mouthwatering descriptions of it, which enhanced our enjoyment. I have been on several food tours and this was definitely one of the best.

Great tour on a cold day!

We were visiting New York on a very cold day (less than 15 degrees!) so we chose the Chinatown tour because it included three indoor seatings. It was a wonderful tour. Raheem was our tour guide - so knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious and we were certainly full at the end. The tour was a little over 3 hours; we were probably outdoors a total of 1 hour (between stops and walking around the area) so this was perfect for such cold weather. We also had a small group so it was quite intimate. This is our second FONY tour (we've also done Chelsea Market and Meatpacking) and we will certainly do another one. I highly recommend both this tour and this tour group.

Great way to learn how to penetrate a neighborhood. We had walked around Chinatown several times before this tour but felt confused and intimidated. Now we know exactly where to go for delightful dim sum, authentic Peking duck, fabulous rice and veggies. And, we now have the confidence to explore places on our own. Our tour guide, Raheem, was enthusiastic, professional, knowledgable. The guidebook alone was worth the price. We liked it. Can you tell?

Our guide got over emotional when a person captured some pigeons at the start of the tour. He talked about it the whole time. Almost cried and kept talking about them being hurt. Someone may have been relocating them. We almost left the tour. What a waste of money. He was never able to focus. Worst tour ever.

Excellent insight to Chinatown and its food

Have now been on all the walking food tours and like the others this is highly recommended. It's different in that the three stops are all sit-down, i.e. no eating in the street. Therefore the stops were more in depth in information and quantity. The guide (Bert) really knew his stuff both in terms of the food preparation but also the history of the area.

My husband and I visit NYC very year in December. We've done tours of Harlem and Brooklyn - and can now add Chinatown to our list. We enjoyed the tour very much. Bert, our tour guide, was very professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The food was delicious and very satisfying. The restaurants were very clean with clean restroom facilities. The wait-staff at the restaurants were very courteous and well-trained. The owners/managers of the restaurants welcomed us and made us feel special and at home. We would highly recommend this tour.
