Not worth the money, energy or time!

We were so enthusiastic about going on this food tour and were very disappointed. At $150.00 for three people, we were provided with about $15.00 worth of food. NO! It was not enough for a lunch and no we were not full! We had to walk around in the heat and rain for morsels of food. The tiny amount of samples (although good) that were provided were only teasers and not worth the three hours of dialog about the restaurants and the neighborhood. Considering that our group consisted 12 tourists that were hungry and tired from sight seeing and traveling, this tour seemed like a waste of my time, energy and money that could have been better spent. Even if it was for "the experience". My family could have toured the area ourselves and had a complete and satisfying meal in a comfortable setting for half the time and price! I wouldn't do it again or recommend this experience to anyone! So disappointed!

NOLITA opens up with Annie!
Fri, Jun 21, 13   11:45 AM Dickbar Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
Our guide Annie shared her passion and enthusiasm as well as her intimate knowledge of this little NYC neighborhood. While the original Greenwich Village tour has more food offerings, this tour made up in quality and quantity of the offerings. Annie's superb knowledge of local history and lore, woven into the visual feast of architecture and surroundings made the area come alive. Favorite food was the pizza at Emporio..we ate at Otto's on Sunday and Mario Battali's pizza pales in comparison! Altho my husband and I love Mexican food, and have lived in Mexico, my least favorite tasting was the corn at the Taqueria. While it was fresh, (corn silk threads in the mix) it tasted like Green Giant Niblets to me!

Annie makes this doubt about it. She has an amazing ability to remember everyone's name and fosters interaction in the group. And she tops it all off with a song, demonstrating her talented singing voice!! She is a gem and the tour is a great addition to your repertoire.

Have recommended several of the restaurants we tried to our daughters who live in NYC. And we recommend your tour to everyone we know who cares about local history, culture and food.

Thanks, Food Tours of New York!

Deliciously Informative...a delight in every way.

Bert proved to be an outstanding guide through the fascinating and delicious neighborhood of Greenwich. All he needs is a pair of orange Crocs and you'd feel as if you were touring the town with Mario Batali's delightful younger brother. Full of information, Bert disseminated information effortlessly while inviting our group to invest our senses into this little, wonderful corner of NYC. With food in his background and seeming to be part of his soul, he talked of the how and the why and then invited us to taste and understand.

There's plenty to eat, and my advice is breakfast very early, or go continental all the way (1/2 a bagel and some coffee maybe?) or you might find you're uncomfortable on the tour as there's ample opportunity to eat ans savor.

One of the very best parts of this tour is the ability to interact with proprietors and chefs, and in our case, Rafele's provided a gem of an experience. We learned from Bert and then were awed by the namesake chef here as he gave even more insight into what he does, how he does it, and then invited us to taste another concoction, that clearly wasn't planned. And it was awesome.

The tour begins and ends more or less in the same place, and yet you traverse the neighborhood and really feel as if you've been somewhere. There's a charm to this place that is best experienced with a little know how from your guide, if you're new to the area.

I will also add that, like schools of fish, your group will pass others. These guides know each other, even if they're from competing companies, and their are all professional enough to give plenty of room an leeway to one another so that you are not distracted by other groups in the slightest. That said, I was able to overhear and see other groups, from other companies, and was thankful we had chosen wisely with this company, the originator of this concept in NYC. I gather guide-work with this company is difficult to come by as they get, and then keep, excellent guides, through and through. We had the perfect balance of commentary, cuisine, and culture in a three hour stroll that captivated us from start to finish.

I highly recommend this tour company. Our experience was top notch, and we cannot wait to return an try another tour in a different neighborhood.

This is a New York must for travelers, or for people like me who live near the city and want to learn about certain areas better! No better way to explore a part of the city, learn about the culture, and eat eat eat!! If you are traveling this is something you will want to do at the beginning of your trip because you will discover places you will want to visit again! Great experience!

My daughter and I had a great afternoon, there's so much history in Greenwich Village that's hidden in small places and the tour gives you the opportunity to learn and sample things you would never find on your own. We saw other groups touring the area and they were way too large. Our group was small enough to feel intimate.

This is the 3rd tour I've done with these folks and I have enjoyed every single one! I always learn something new about the neighborhood that I would have missed otherwise and get insights into new restaurants that I might not have tried otherwise. There is always plenty of yummy foods to taste and the guides are great. This is a really good value, I think, and I would definitely recommend it!

Fun and informative food tout

We really enjoyed this food your. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The cheese tasting was the best tasting in my opinion. We weren't crazy about the cucumber with various salts tasting. The guide said this was added to replace a tasting that included bread , and I agree this is a wise move, but you might want to consider adding additional cheeses or a tasting that involves tasting several types of olives. Or, give a larger tasting of the chocolate milk, which was amazing, along with some type of cookie or pastry. Plan to allot yourself extra time to return to Chelsea Market at the end of the tour to continue to explore.

Hit or Miss, least favorite tour so far

This is my third tour with Foods of NY, and it was my least favorite. The first two tastings were fantastic - the amazing Brooklyn Blackout Cupcake, the Roman-style prosciutto/argula/tomato pizza - huge slice, yum. Very good. The tartine - tiny portion, but good. Next, a cup of grilled corn with chipotle aioli. Ok, but after a few bites, it was just corn. A ho-hum tasting of fresh ricotta on whole grain bread, with nary an explanation of why we were at that particular restaurant, and why that ricotta was special. Then a stop that boggled my mind - we went into a salon started by a friend the guide knows. Haircuts 90-200$, seriously, why would we be interested in that? What did that have to do with food or culture? We soon found out - the guide showed us a beauty book written by the friend that has a photo of the guide! I didn't come to NYC to see a picture of the tour guide in a beauty book! I came to learn about food & history in a NY neighborhood. I was so turned off that I left the tour before the final tasting. It was cold, rainy, and I just didn't care anymore.
