Totally worth it!

I went on the other food tours and this one was just as good as the other ones. Our tour guide Curt was really knowledgeable and pretty funny too. I would seriously recommend these tours to anyone visiting to NYC. It's also a good way to find out more about the neighbourhoods. The tasting portions were very generous as well. All I have to say is it's worth your buck!

The tour guide was great and the food was even better. It's worth while to go on these tours because you get to know more of the area than just going through it yourself. It's a three hours well spent. I think it's even better than the more touristy places like times square. There were a lot of family owned restaurants that serve a lot of good quality food. I would recommend this to anyone who loves to eat and who loves to explore new places.

The tour guide was really knowledgeable. It gives us a chance to get acquainted with the area. If we hadn't gone on the tour we wouldn't have known of the gems that were in the area. The food was great! I'd recommend this to anyone coming from out of town and also for the locals as well.

Interesting and fun

Well lead by Robin we made lots of food stops as well as an enjoyable stroll around Greenwich Village learning about local history and culture. All the food tasted great and the local vendors were friendly and helpful. Everyone had a personal favorite and we all really enjoyed ourselves. I was glad we were just a group of 8 or 9, any more have made things somewhat unwieldy. The value for money was fair, it's not a cheap tour but you will learn a lot about the area and you will certainly enjoy the food.

My husband and I joined 14 other people on the Chelsea Mkt/Meatpacking Food Tour and enjoyed every bite. Even though it was raining as we left Chelsea Marketplace, it did not dampen the mood. Bob was our tour guide and was absolutely excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed this and will be signing up for another of the tours offered on our next trip to NYC.

What an interesting tour and the tour guide (C/Kurt) was a good part of what made the tour interesting and very enjoyable. Just the right sense of humor to lead and herd us around the building and the neighborhood telling us about the history and the present.

I recommended this tour to the relatives that live in the area... both because they love food and because they love learning about NYC.

Amazing Guide . . . Disappointing tastings
Thu, Apr 24, 14   2:00 PM wilopent Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our guide, Barri, was amazing! . . . she was knowledgeable, informative, warm and attentive to everyone in our group of 16. The tour in Chelsea Market was great . . . so much interesting history of the market itself and the proprietors of the various shops, which are so diverse and appetizing. The ambiance, colors, floating aromas wafting throughout the underground venue are so welcoming, as were the staffs of the shops we entered. Unfortunately, the tastings themselves, for the most part, were a bit disappointing and really didn't capture the culinary delights I was anticipating, except for the delectable and outrageous Dickson's Farmstand Meats . . . which blew me and our whole group away! You've got to see and taste this butcher's fantastic array of specialty meats for yourself.

After Chelsea Market, our guide Barri, took us up to the High Line for a brief 20 minute view and brought out its interesting history of days gone by when it was a railway delivering produce and supplies to purveyors along the route. The view of the Piers and the Hudson from up high, on that sunny windy day, were worth the hike. From there we went down to the Meat Packing District and learned about its seedy history and Barri's informative imagery was a delight. Her enthusiastic historical storytelling made the whole experience of bygone days come alive for us all. ( and she did this walking and standing tour with her leg in a brace, recuperating!)

The tour ended with a sit down tasting of a pasta dish in Macellaria Italian Restaurant, which was just "okay".

All in all though, the whole experience was quite an education and a delight in many ways and I'm truly glad I went. I've been to Chelsea Market and the High Line a few times before, but now when I go back I'll enjoy it so much more.

Tour Was Everything We Hoped It Would Be!!

The expectiions of the tour were certainly fullfilled. The food tasting of the various business's were very generous and at the same time we learned the history of the business and the neighborhood. We also received the background and history of "The Village" which included the archtecture of the various residences including detailed architectural facts that defined the history of the buildings which was of interest to us.

We met some New Yorker's and when we told them we had been to Chumley's, the question was "How did you find out about Chumley's?" The answere was of course "Our FoodTour of Greenwich Village!"

We enjoyed the tour very much and would recommend it to our friends. Bari was a delight and very informative and enthusiastic regarding her presentation of "The Village."

Gastronomic gander through Greenwich

A great little window into the area of Greenwich and a dip into Soho. Our guide Susanne balanced the tour delightfully with the history of the area, the restaurants and of course...the food. Well paced and informative we were also blessed with the weather to give us a great day in Manhattan. We only had time for one cocktail stop but we made up for it by scampering back afterwards to soak up a bit more of the area's bars and atmos before chowing down again at Monty's (one of the earlier tastings).

Best of the Best Food Tour in NYC

The tour was very informative, entertaining and gave a wonderful tasting of the Chelsea Market Area and food. Kurt Upton, the tour guide was "marvelous". His ability to remember everyone's name was remarkable. He made the tour extra special and I would recommend people to be sure they ask for him when taking a tour. We would definitely take a food tour again. Our friends, who live in NYC, are now interested in going.

We found it a culturally and historically factual tour. Great knowledge of the area from the guide was particularly significant to the culture of the area. Walking Greenwich village was particularly charming as was sampling the the food got the taste buds going.

I would recommend it to anyone I know. The guide was very knowledgeable, and provided me with a new perspective on the Village. Food was gret too.
