Summer Solstice Stained Glass Window Tour San Francisco, CA N/A - Info & Tickets
Grace Cathedral is the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of California, and an iconic house of prayer for all - locally, nationally and internationally.  Our inclusive congregation consists of seekers and believers, embraces innovation and open-minded conversation, and tries to put its beliefs into action in all aspects of life.  The cathedral is a beautiful, sacred space, and our liturgy and well-known music program (including a men and boys choir) attract many to the four Sunday services and daily services.  We host cultural events in the visual arts, music and drama often in partnership with other major cultural institutions of the city, civic conversations on key issues of the day, and an excellent and wide-ranging educational program and flagship Forum series.  Cathedrals have long been places of pilgrimage and all of us at Grace Cathedral are ready to welcome you among us whenever you are able to visit.

The history of Grace Cathedral extends back to 1849, when little Grace Chapel was built in Gold Rush San Francisco. A more impressive structure was completed in 1862 but was destroyed by the fire following the 1906 earthquake. That same fire gave rise to the cathedral we see today.

Charles was prompt, interesting, humorous and informative. Charles pointed out the architectural history of the cathedral. My daughter and I enjoyed the time we spent with him. The cathedral is lovely. The tower climb was fun and the view over Nob Hill was pretty. .

My sisters and I had a great tour. Charles was incredibly knowledgeable and very patient. He educated us on the history of the building, city, and religion. Even though we went over time with all of our questions and observations, we never felt hurried or like he was giving us an abbreviated answer. The cathedral has a fascinating history and beautiful architecture and decoration. I would recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for architecture and religious buildings in particular.

We loved our tour. The tour guide was very informative and showed us things we've never noticed coming here several times as locals. The access to back rooms, passages, corridors, and even the top of one of the bell towers is well worth the price. Highly recommended!!

I have been in Grace Cathedral many times, but had never 'explored' it. The tour covered several areas that would not ordinarily be accessible to the public and we spent time getting to know some of the art pieces and their history, which was quite interesting.

We went on the tour on March 25th. The weather was perfect (warm with slight breeze), we got to see a dragonfly (our tour guide mentioned it's rare to see them in those parts), the cathedral was beautiful, and our guide shared wonderful insight about the cathedral and the history of the surrounding area. I enjoyed the stained glass windows and how they cast colors onto the walls and floors. As they suggest, wear comfortable shoes -- the tour was a little under 2 hours, and there's a part where we climbed up 5 flights of stairs to go to the tower. At the end, our guide gave him his contact info in case we think of questions later, which I thought was very generous. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone interested in history, beautiful buildings and artifacts, and walking!
