Travel around the world and back in Milwaukee on our Christmas Around Milwaukee Bakery Bus Tour! An excellent opportunity to celebrate the holidays with friends while sampling (and if desired, purchasing additional) delicious holiday cookies from a collection of our favorite bakeries in Milwaukee!

The 3-hour bus tour departs from downtown Milwaukee and feature stops at bakeries throughout the area while enjoying stories of ethnic holiday traditions en route. Guests on this unique tour will be treated to signature cookies, candies and pastries at each stop.

  • Our guests have a lot of fun shopping at each of the bakeries we visit. Please consider bringing a tote or canvas shopping bag to keep track of all of your goodies on the bus.
  • As several bakeries only take cash, be sure to keep that in mind when planning out your day.
  • You may want to think about bringing a bottle of water with you, otherwise you can purchase bottled drinks at most of the establishments that we visit.
  • We encourage everyone to dress for the occasion; Santa hats, Elf stockings, ugly Christmas sweaters, pretty Christmas sweaters...all are welcome on the Christmas Around Milwaukee Bakery Bus Tours!
  • Although minimal walking is required, there is still walking involved.
  • This tour is NOT handicap accessible and attendees will need to go up/down minimal stairs to get on/off the bus multiple times.

What Is Not Included?

  • This is an excellent opportunity to purchase your holiday cookies - please bring extra cash with you if you'd like to purchase additional items during the tour as well as bring a tote or canvas shopping bag to keep track of all of your goodies on the bus! Please note: some stops do not accept credit cards.
  • Gratuities for your tour guide, although not required, are always appreciated.

This was my second time on the trip; first time was with a group of friends, and this round was with my mother and grandma as their Christmas gift. Both my mother and grandmother are very good bakers, but have lived and grew up in northern Wisconsin and rarely have a chance to make it down to Milwaukee to see the different bakeries there. I had tour guide Marie both times, and she was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the area! Lots of fun, so much bakery for the price, and loved that it was different for me the second time around so I could try new places. Definitely recommend to try or to repeat. Can't wait to try their other tours!
Milwaukee Food & City Tours responded:

Perfect gift for 70 year old mom + 18, 19 grands
Sat, Dec 26, 15  1:00 PM Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
Like most mothers, they don't really want any "stuff" for Christmas. This Holiday Bakery tour was the perfect experience gift for my mom and my two adult girls. They spent the day learning and eating at 9 area bakeries. The Mexican one was the first, and they were kind of disappointed that it was clearly the best one. Perhaps save this for last? They said that Grebe's was not worth going to, but all the other ones were amazing. They especially liked Mr. Bye's Pies and they bought an entire Key Lime Pie - wow, delicious!
Milwaukee Food & City Tours responded:
We appreciate your feedback. We always try to craft our tours to be the best experience possible for our guests. We are glad to hear that your gift went over well, and we are thankful that you had us in mind with your gift-giving this past holiday season!

Enjoyed the the tour leader's (Marie) enthusiasm and knowledge of Milwaukee ethnic history. Well organized. Appreciated the opportunity to taste all that the bakeries had to offer. Nice activity for out of town guests.

Fun Tour Guide, Average Experience
Sun, Dec 20, 15  10:45 AM Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
We've been on a few Milwaukee Food Tours and this has been our least favorite. It felt a little bit like the purpose was to drive business for the bakeries as we were urged to buy things. Our Tour Guide was fun and made the drive around the city interesting. We liked the bakeries that took the time to talk to our group and tell us about their bakery, and share treats that were relevant to what they are best known for. Some of the bakeries didn't seem to care if we were there and gave out generic cookies.
Milwaukee Food & City Tours responded:
We're sorry that this wasn't your favorite tour with our company! The Christmas Around Milwaukee Bakery Bus is definitely designed differently than our traditional progressive meal experiences, offering generous samples at each of the bakeries along with shopping time. We've learned through the years that the vast majority of attendees want to shop at the bakeries, so have added in that to the tour so that guests can shop without the hassle of returning later and having to find parking, etc. Thank you for being a repeat attendee, and definitely be sure to check out our more traditional offerings such as the Pizza Bus or the Brady Street tour!

We had a blast but it was a little much.
Sun, Dec 20, 15  10:45 AM Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I think the tour would have been fine with 5 bakeries. We loved each of the bakeries we went to but we were sugared out way before the tour was finished. The tour guide was very nice and personable and made each of us feel welcome. My group enjoyed this trip a lot but agreed that the bbq trip we took this summer was a little better.

Looking forward to taking the pizza tour this spring.
Milwaukee Food & City Tours responded:
Thanks for your feedback! We do try to take you to as many different ethnic bakeries as we can on the Bakery Bus and provide to go bags so that you can take home the sweets you can't eat. We would love to have you on the Milwaukee Pizza Bus Tour, four pizzerias and a gelato shop with history along the way - always a fun time!

Milwaukee Food & City Tours

My name is Theresa Nemetz, and I combined my love for Milwaukee and my husband's love for great food to create Milwaukee Food & City Tours. I was inspired to do so by my great-grandparents, Guiseppi and Rosa, who 100 years ago immigrated to Milwaukee from Santa Flavia, Sicily. Milwaukee has a rich Italian, German, Irish and Polish immigrant history, its an honor to be able to share the stories of the exceptional immigrants that brought our city to life.

We are Milwaukee's original, premier and award winning food tour. I am a Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA), an alumna of Future Milwaukee and have served as a culinary speaker at a number of tourism-related conferences. We even won the Governor's Rising Star in Tourism Award, and the Dear MKE Award through VISIT Milwaukee. Credentials aside, at Milwaukee Food & City Tours, our passion is firmly rooted in food and in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
We are proud of two pieces of commentary often provided by our attendees: “I’ve lived here my entire life and never explored Milwaukee like I did today” and “I was expecting a tasting but this was a full meal!” Whether you are a Milwaukee native, visiting the city on your own or traveling as part of group, you will not be disappointed.  We consider our tours a progressive meal with a side of history.
Stories from Milwaukee's culinary scene are plentiful, and I invite you to immerse yourself into our culture in a fun and intimate way by experiencing Milwaukee Food & City Tours. Come hungry, and be inspired!
