Description

Enjoy a tour through Milwaukee, long known as our "City of Steeples," while visiting local chocolate shops along the way. On this tour we'll delve into dessert with stops at 2 local chocolatiers, and we'll also visit 3 local churches to learn about the history and architecture of these unique places of worship.

We'll meet at a local coffee shop where we'll first enjoy coffee and muffins, then we'll visit 3 churches - plus 2 chocolatiers - via bus. Coffee, muffins, chocolate treats, guided-fun and round-trip transportation are included in the price, along with donations to each church visited.

Sample itinerary of places we might visit:
St. Joan of Arc Chapel - perhaps the only medieval structure (1400's) in the entire Western Hemisphere dedicated to its original purpose
St. Paul's Episcopal Church - view their stunning and extensive stained glass window collection, including the largest window ever created by Tiffany
Grace Lutheran - celebrate 160 years of their history in downtown Milwaukee

IMPORTANT NOTATIONS:
  • Our guests have a lot of fun shopping at each of the chocolate shops that we visit. Please consider bringing a tote or canvas shopping bag to keep track of all of your goodies on the bus.
  • Although minimal walking is required, there is still walking involved.
  • Church locations subject to change based on availability.
  • This tour is NOT handicap accessible and attendees will need to go up/down minimal stairs to get on/off the bus multiple times.

What Is Not Included?

Please bring extra cash with you if you'd like to purchase additional items such as chocolate during the tour as well as a tote or canvas shopping bag to keep track of all of your goodies on the bus! Please note: some stops do not accept credit cards.

Gratuities for your tour guide, although not required, are always appreciated.

Fun with Churches and Chocolate
Sat, Jan 16  9:30 AM Female 60-69 Local Individual

We visited three similar, but very different churches, Catholic and Lutheran. And very delicious chocolatiers between those stops. The pastors who guided us through the churches were both humorous and instructional, with info about the history and current projects--not about religion itself :) It was a unique tour, and I'd register for another! Driver and tour guide were top notch (and I cannot remember their names after all these weeks)

Very informative and enjoyable tour. Skillful bus driver and lovely tour guide. Sandy went above and beyond to make my mom comfortable (mom was self-conscious and a bit slow-moving).

The tour guide and driver (Sandy and Tanya) were great. Sandy was so informative and fun as she provided info on each of the sites we visited. The candy was delicious. The docents at each of the churches were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about there subjects. We loved learning about the history of the beautiful churches we visited. Father Mike rocks!

Great for all ages

I bought my mom (age: 50s) this tour as a Christmas present for us to do together. I (age: 30's) figured she's like it, but was unsure if I'd be bored or not, but it was highly entertaining for both of us! It's a new speaker at every place, and the tour guide entertains you on the short bus rides between stops with Milwaukee history and trivia - stuff that even I, as a history buff and 10 year resident of the city, didn't know. The people at the churches were incredibly entertaining. They discussed the history of the church and the present-day culture of it. Everything was well organized and on time - they knew once the tour director stood up that their time was nearing its end and wrapped it up. (And the chocolate is a-maz-ing!)

Milwaukee Food & City Tours responded:
We love that our tours are a chance for family to spend some quality time together. We are happy that you enjoyed learning a bit more about Milwaukee throughout the tour. Maybe next year, you and your mom would enjoy our Christmas Around Milwaukee Bakery Bus tour!

About

Milwaukee Food & City Tours

My name is Theresa Nemetz, and I combined my love for Milwaukee and my husband's love for great food to create Milwaukee Food & City Tours. I was inspired to do so by my great-grandparents, Guiseppi and Rosa, who 100 years ago immigrated to Milwaukee from Santa Flavia, Sicily. Milwaukee has a rich Italian, German, Irish and Polish immigrant history, its an honor to be able to share the stories of the exceptional immigrants that brought our city to life.

We are Milwaukee's original, premier and award winning food tour. I am a Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA), an alumna of Future Milwaukee and have served as a culinary speaker at a number of tourism-related conferences. We even won the Governor's Rising Star in Tourism Award, and the Dear MKE Award through VISIT Milwaukee. Credentials aside, at Milwaukee Food & City Tours, our passion is firmly rooted in food and in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

We are proud of two pieces of commentary often provided by our attendees: “I’ve lived here my entire life and never explored Milwaukee like I did today” and “I was expecting a tasting but this was a full meal!” Whether you are a Milwaukee native, visiting the city on your own or traveling as part of group, you will not be disappointed.  We consider our tours a progressive meal with a side of history.

Stories from Milwaukee's culinary scene are plentiful, and I invite you to immerse yourself into our culture in a fun and intimate way by experiencing Milwaukee Food & City Tours. Come hungry, and be inspired!

Bon Appétit!
