A whale of a day!

I was told we would see whales and we did, dolphins too. Needed a little Dramamine while we were drifting with the whales but it was worth it. Ride was smooth and the adventure was great.

Comfortable boat, stand-offish naturalist

Princess Monterey has the biggest boats in Monterey for whale watching. This does allow for a certain degree of comfort (large indoor space, snack bar, four rest rooms). However, the naturalist kept herself behind ropes and locked up in the bridge during the 2.5 hour tour, to make sure no one could ask her questions. She did come around ONCE, at the end of the trip asking "Do you have any questions?", but there were times I wanted to ask her certain things on the spot, such as when I saw a large jellyfish and wanted to ask her what kind of jellyfish that was, and so on. Their boats go about the same speed as the others. In deciding which company to use, I would weigh the pro of the bigger ship versus the con of not being able to ask questions during the trip. Also, this company's rates are higher than most others', and you have to pay $20 extra per person if you want to go on the upper deck (which makes it far easier to go from one side of the ship to the other as the whales move).

It was good, but a little bit too long.

We saw everything in the first 1.5 hours, but had to sit on the bumpy ship for one hour more. Lots of people lost the interest in the end, cause there was nothing new and also the ship is too bumpy.

Whales Whales Whales!

Beautiful day on the bay taking our children out whale watching for their first time. Princess Monterey was perfect. Beautiful large ship made everyone comfortable for the day. We saw lots of whales, including one that breached 3 times right off the back of the ship. We also saw dolphins, sea lions, sea otters and jellyfish. The kids absolutely loved it! Princess Monterey was very professional, easy to find and had a great crew both on and off the ship. I would highly recommend them for an outing on the bay.

Beautiful Weather for Whale Watching

This was a very enjoyable activity. The weather was gorgeous (mid January), the whales were accommodating, and we saw a few dolphins and an otter. Would recommend to friends.

Just Okay

Overall the trip was okay. The boat ride was obviously fun just in itself, but I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see too many whales. And when we did they were quite far away. My husband and I were on our honeymoon, so it was a great adventure regardless. I would recommend this but do not get your hopes up to see anything, or anything up close. What I did love that we went in January, off peak. There was lots of space on the boat, it wasn't not crowded. That was a big bonus.

Second time on this Princess Cruise it was great.

This time we chose the upper deck and it was beautiful. Followed a pod of four whales for about an hour plus all the other wildlife and scenery. Very skilled and personable captain and crew. Ship was clean and tidy everywhere and we truly enjoyed it. I would recommend this to everyone!

I especially liked the info given with the name of each living

species we saw, and those pointed out for us to see!

I never knew there were so many different dolphins, but I especially liked

having the birds pointed out and told their names. Thank you for all the interesting

info and the details.
