Mostly a fun excursion

We are a family of six, 4 children ages 6-16. My youngest was required to wear a life vest provided on the boat. We departed promptly at 10 am. It only took 10-15 minutes before we came upon a large pod of common dolphins (numbering in the hundreds). Around this pod we also saw sea lions, an otter, and several humpback whales that would surface occasionally. We followed this group of animals for the next 1.5 hours and had a great view of them. The boat then headed off in another direction for the final hour or so of the cruise, but we saw no more sea life. For us, three hours was a bit long, and we started to feel quite uncomfortable with the cold and queasiness, especially my husband who vomited off the back of the boat for the last half of the cruise (he wasn't the only one). The seas were a bit rough, but I'm not sure how it compared to other days on the water. If you are at all inclined to sea sickness, come prepared with Dramamine or something similar (start taking it several hours before you depart). Bring warm clothes, as it was sunny & pleasant on land, but foggy and cold about 1/2 mile out to sea. In all it was exciting to see the marine life, and the naturalist aboard the boat was helpful & knowledgable. Just be aware of the cold and the possibility of sea sickness.

Whales and Dolphins galore

We weren't on the water 15 minutes before we sighted our first Humpback Whale. We probably saw 20 different humpbacks during our trip. At one time we had over a hundred dolphins breaking the water all around us in a feeding frenzy that included whales and sea lions. One humpback was so close to the boat that we could see his eye and barnacles on his side. If you are not a seasoned waterman, you should take motion sickness medicine before you take the trip..

Lots of whales to sea, also pretty close! I didn't like that the information they provide during the trip is difficult to hear (because of the noise from the wind and boat) and that the staff is poorly accessible . Don't go when you get seasick quickly!

A great Family Activity with lots of sightings

A great cruise with a lot of whale sightings, the kids loved this as well as the adults. I would recommend checking in and getting in line for this activity early (at least 30min) because the best seats on the front of the boat are the first to go. At times it was hard for my kids to see the action even though the captain announced to please let kids go in front of the all adults :( I had to get pretty bold and tell people to let them in front of them. The only thing that would have made this cruise better was if they had made sure the "sightings" could be seen from both sides of the boat. On our cruise, 75% of the sightings were on the right and if you were on the left side you couldn't see as well as you would like...maybe they could adjust the boats position at times??? Anyways, all in all, it was a fantastic experience and I would take my family again!

This was one of the most exciting experiences of our 41 years of marriage. We expected to get a glimpse of a whale miles away. Instead we saw 10-15 whales feeding, breaching, and spouting only yards away. Thank you for

such an exhilarating adventure!

We had a fantastic experience on the whale watching tour, we saw a family of humpback whales, which was just incredible. The guide on board the ship was very informative, and made sure everyone had photo opportunities by pre warning us where they were likely to turn up. It was a great couple of hours that I will never forget.

Excellent event from start to finish. Man greeting guests was very interesting and helpful. Staff on board was knowledgeable and friendly. On the deck above, the woman who did the sightings was infectiously enthusiastic and exciting. We saw about 12 whales very near and a few in the distance; It was a great trip.

We travelled approximately 40 minutes to the location on the north side of the bay where the whales were feeding. Several other whale watching boats were already on site. Once there we were able to observe at least 4 groups of whales, dozens of sea lions and seals, and birds feeding on a large school of anchovies. The naturalist did a great job of explaining the behaviors we were observing. The captain did a marvelous job of maneuvering the boat so that we would continue to have the best opportunity to observe the whales each time they surfaced. I stopped counting the number of whale tails that we observed. Fantastic experience, my third time with the Princess Monterey, and I would definitely do it again if I find myself back in Monterey.
