Considered the forgotten soul of New York, Harlem has a rich, diverse ethnic and cultural history reaching back 350 years. Starting with the Dutch settlers in 1658, Harlem was flooded by Irish, Italian, Spanish and Eastern European Jewish immigrants over the next three centuries. You can still see European-style boulevards and more than 400 churches in one of New York’s greatest neighborhoods.

Currently, African-American culture still dominates this newly gentrified and sophisticated neighborhood. Celebrities have made deep impressions here, and our 3-hour walking tour will feature some of Harlem’s greatest sites, including:
  • The Apollo Theater
  • The Hotel Theresa
  • The Studio Museum
In addition, you will hear stories of the Harlem Renaissance as well as some of its giant creative figures such as Duke Ellington, Paul Robeson, Langston Hughes, Ella Fitzgerald, Malcolm X and Frederic Douglass.  Harlem is a beacon of New York's past and present and a delight to tour through.

The tour meets near Columbus Circle, but will include a subway ride to Harlem.  Please note that the subway fare is not included and all guests must have a metrocard with at least $2.50.
