Would highly recommend this tour for anyone with an interest in history, specifically Revolutionary War history, or the general history of New York. Karen is very enthusiastic and had copies of historical documents to show you exactly what the people were seeing as far back as 250 years ago. As she pointed out, people in NYC did such a good job of saving historical documents and records even before they were aware that they would be historic. The tour was the 2.5 hours advertised and was easily worth the price. It was interesting to see where many of the events of the pre-Revolutionary War era and beyond occurred. To enhance the value of the tour, do a bit of research ahead of time. Two books I would recommend are "1776" by David McCullough and "Gotham: A History of NYC to 1898." Having an idea of what you are going to see helps clarify any questions you may have had as you were reading. The tour basically underlines what makes NY trips so exciting: so much history and so many attractions all within walking distance of anywhere you are on the island! I go to NYC all the time on my vacations and there are other tours offered by Karen that I want to go on, if not next time, then some other time in the near future. If they are as good as this tour was, then I have no doubt that it will be well worth the time and money. By the way, no matter how well you know NYC, make sure you consult a map to be sure you get to the place where the tour begins. I did not notice that Broadway branches out into 2 or 3 "Broadways" and I ended up two blocks west of where the tour began. Make sure you are on West Broadway and that you are at the edge of the Park as stated in the directions. I was late, but fortunately Karen waited for me. Glad she did; it is a tour you do not want to miss!

As the other tour takers did not show, my husband and I ended up having a personal Revolutionary War Tour. Karen is extremely knowledgeable and engaging. She really provided three tours in one as in addition to the Revolutionary highlights, Karen shared with us her very personal experience on 9/11 and her office was located close enough to the Twin Towers to see the people tragically jumping to their death from the Towers. She also highlighted areas of current interest, such as the Trump building n the Wall Street area that he successfully renovated after many years of disrepair. Please note that Karen's comments were not political at all in nature, simply pointing out interesting sites in the area. Take the time to do this tour, you won't regret it.

I have been on walking tours in cities throughout the world, and this was definitely one of the great ones! The guide was impressive and inspirational in her grasp of the people and events surrounding the unfolding of the revolution/revolutionary events in NYC. She was quoting texts and documents from the top of her head throughout--a definite sign of her passion and in-depth research on the subject. This deep curiosity and interest was infectious, and we left the tour thrilled with what we had just learned. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. You will be glad you went!

I had so much fun on this tour! My family enjoyed every minute of the tour, and wished it could have gone longer. I learned so much, and really enjoyed learning about the area where I live. I never would have known these things had I not gone on this tour. I've now caught the bug, and I'm going on as many tours as possible.

Our guide, Karen, really made history come alive. She was so knowledgeable about NYC in the Revolutionary War period, and had great documents, maps and illustrations to show us from that time. Best of all was the way she told the stories of New York's role in the war - her enthusiasm, passion and sense of humor made for a very entertaining time. I am not a history buff, but the right guide made all the difference. She was also very professional, moving the tour along without ever seeing hurried, and the time flew by.
