This tour was a great introduction to the downtown area of Syracuse. I particularly enjoyed learning about the history of the city and its architecture as well as hearing about future plans regarding the infrastructure of the city. As a new transplant to the city, this tour made appreciate Syracuse a lot more!

Overall a great experience

My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. She is a foodie (loves cooking and watching the Food Network) and a history buff, so it was like combining both of her favorite things. Kate, the tour guide, does a great job teaching you about the places you eat and the surrounding area. It was a good dose of history without getting too academic which could be overly boring for some. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy themselves and have a great time.

She tells you that the goal is to get moderately full while having a good time and learning about the food and the area. This is exactly what she accomplished. I'm only a 5'8" 150 lb man and I got enough food for a lunch. I was no where near stuffed, but I felt like I had eaten enough to hold over until dinner without a problem. The one place that was disappointing was Pastabilities. My wife and I have visited Syracuse a number of times and were looking forward to trying their food, but we were only served bread and their spicy tomato oil there. Not every place was that skimpy on the food (or else I would have been unhappy) and I'm sure that's a big part of what they're famous for, but it was still disappointing for us. Other then that, we enjoyed the rest of the tour. We also visited Kitty Hoynes, Freedom of Espresso, Dinosaur BBQ and Gannon's Ice Cream. I got the feeling that this is the standard tour schedule.

I should also note that we know Syracuse and the area pretty well and we still learned quite a bit and also enjoyed some dishes that we never would have tried otherwise. Overall, I would definitely recommend this as a fun thing to do that will give you a taste of Syracuse.

The food was fantastic. We stopped at all corners of the city, but the walk didn't seem long at all due to our stops. Kate, our tour guide, had great facts and gave a very fun tour. She made it a point to engage everyone in our group. I went on a date and had a great time walking around the beautiful city, drinking, and eating, Got these tickets as a gift, and it was a great experience to see the city. Went to places i've been before, but tried new food and learned all the fun facts and history. I would highly recommend to both locals and visitors.

Sampling Syracuse Food Tours

The idea of a food tour in Syracuse began while visiting my very good friend from college Jenn, who lives in New Jersey.  It was June 2012 and she thought it would be fun to spend the afternoon taking a food tour in Manayunk, PA.  Jenn was right, we had the best time!  Thank goodness I do not have daily access to mini Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches!

After our exceptional food tour, we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon in Manayunk, rather than go into Philadelphia as planned.  We were enjoying a beer at the local brewery when it dawned on me that Syracuse would be a great place to have a food tour!  Syracuse has a fascinating historyamazing restaurants and a continuing and exciting revitalization of downtown Syracuse.  After 15 years of friendship, Jenn knows how much I love Syracuse and food, and thought it would be a great idea to start a food tour in Syracuse.

With the help and support of wonderful friends and an amazing family, five months later, Sampling Syracuse Food Tours was ready to showcase incredibly tasty food from some of the best restaurants in Downtown Syracuse all the while walking along city sidewalks and gaining an appreciation for Syracuse’s rich history.

Sampling Syracuse Food Tours is a home-grown, locally owned and operated small business.  We take great pride in our city and its incredible surroundings, and we will go the extra mile to make sure each and every customer on our tours has an experience that is fun, memorable and pleasing to the palate.
