A Kids Tour of the Jewish LoVer East Side New York City, NY N/A - Info & Tickets
Timeline Touring/ LoVer East Side Tours was founded by Jeffrey Altman. He is a graduate of the City's University System, a scion of New York City's legendary garment trade, and a life-long resident of New York's Jewish community.

Jeff wanted to share his pride for the Jewish neighborhoods of his hometown with others, but these communities are generally closed off to outsiders. Timeline Touring/ LoVer East Side Tours was established to open up this hitherto closed world to the outside. As Jeff says, “I want people to be able to experience the amazing area that I live in and near. It is filled with history, yet it breathes and is always changing. In New York City the Jewish People and Heritage are very much alive.”

Timeline Touring/ LoVer East Side Tours is for visitors and native New Yorkers who are not satisfied with the typical NYC tourist spots and want to gain access to the vast cultural expanse that is modern-day New York. On our tours, people step back in time as they visit a way of life which they assumed had all but disappeared.

I've been living in NYC for over 10 years and never been in Boro Park. This tour was worth every penny. The tour guide, Jeff, was very well versed in the hasidic customs and other topics and I was absorbed by the stories of the places we visited. The visit to the Matzo factory was impressive.. I would have wanted to visit the inside of a synagogue. Perhaps in the Lower East Side tour which I'll be taking as well.

At the end of the tour in Eichler's I bought a book recommended by the guide : Out of the Depths. It is a very touching memoir by Rabbi Israel Meir Lau. I will also recommend its reading.

Thanks for giving us this opportunity.

Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the life of a Chasidic Jew in Borough Park to include career, dating, keeping kosher, marriage, schools and entertainment to name a few. We especially enjoyed visiting the handmade matzo bakery to see how one woman managed so many men on an assembly line, to stay on time. We also liked eating the rugelach at Weiss Bakery. The only negative would be that high school kids are a more appropriate age for the tour as there is a lot of detailed information and concepts that younger children might not grasp.

Jeff was a terrific guide. We were the only 2 on the tour, and he customized things to our interests and knowledge level. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to others.
