Song of the Lakes were fantastic and the Captain and crew were great. Thoroughly enjoyable time. Oh yeah, 40 MPH gusts helped too.

A great time!. We attended the sunset music cruise. It was as much fun watching the crew do their thing to get the ship sailing as it was listening to the music. Bring your jacket and wear long pants. It gets cold and very windy out there!

Sailing with Song of the Lake what could be better
Wed, Aug 20, 14  6:30 PM Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Song of the Lake were great and the sail was great. Recommend that the drink line be at the rear of the ship and not right in front of the musical group. The dinner box was nice but unnecessary. I know that all people on board were paying customers but when some have no interest in the sail or the music they should have enough sense to not be front and center, loud and annoying. With this being said I would ask the crew to announce before sail that all persons less interested in the music and more interested in drinks find there way to the poop deck where drinks are available more quickly. So those of us who are Lake Heads would like to hear and interact with the group could be closer. I have gone on too much with a minor detail of one such individual who thinks more of himself then those around him. It would be nice if the crew had the permission of the Captain to ask that one annoying person to restrain himself to a low roar. I am being way too critical and it really was not all that bad, the Song of the Lake all came back and said hi and renewed our friendship. It was almost ten years since we last saw them at the Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. Lisa was the first to recognize us and then she pass it on to the rest of the group. We loved all the songs and sang with most of them. Song of the Lake were great and the sail was perfect. The weather could not have been better and the Captain and crew were knowledgeable and pleasant. I would recommend this experience to any one who would appreciate a unique sailing and musical journey. Sincerely, Mike & Rosanne, Wyandotte, MI

Not Worth The Money
Wed, Aug 20, 14  6:30 PM Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Went on a tall ship last year in Door County and loved it. Thought this would be better, turned out worse. All we did is sail around in a large circle and were back in long before sunset, then the captain literally ran off the ship and took off on his motorcycle before we were back to our cars. The picnic lunch was a joke, consisted of a wrap , small container of a cold salad and a cookie. They seem to have a gimick to get people on the sail and it is totally small time. The captain was more interested in his group of friends that were on-board than the paying guests. I was never so disappointed in a sail in my life. Our recommendation SAVE YOU MONEY and just throw it into the bay, you would get as much excitement. The sad thing is the captains final remarks were don't forget to tip the crew. No one thanked us for coming or asked anyone within our earshot did you enjoy ourselves, it was like we got their money and made it back to shore so they did their jobs. That was definitely 2 hours of our life we will never get back. Please think it through before you go on this bush league excursion.

The 4 of us in our group thoroughly enjoyed the event. The Crew were friendly and helpful. The conversations with other guests were engaging. We were on the Sea Shanty tour and enjoyed the music even though the voices were hard to hear. I recommend the Manitou sail for everyone.

A blissful evening

My sister and I headed out on 8/6/14 and had a perfect night on the bay. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to help hoist the sails and set out for fantastic and enchanting evening aboard The Manitou. The music was lively and wonderfully authentic. The crew, the band, and the beautiful back drop of the northern Michigan night made for a perfectly enjoyable evening. The boat was sold out, but there was still plenty of room aboard. We were seated close enough to make friends easily, without being too close for comfort. We had a top shelf experience and will definitely make a return trip!

Do I need to book tickets in advance?
While we can sometimes accommodate last minute sign-ups, we highly recommend purchasing your tickets in advance in order to guarantee your space. Book online or over the phone using a Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
The forecast says 30% chance of rain, will it rain on my sail?
This is a common summer forecast in this area. The majority of time we will see little or no precipitation. We watch the weather radar carefully and will cancel in the event of extended periods of heavy rain. However, we will sail in light rain or showers.
What happens if there is bad weather?
If Traverse Tall Ship Co. cancels because of bad weather (thunderstorms, heavy rain for extended periods etc.) you may reschedule your sail or receive a full refund.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded. You may reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) only if you do so at least 24 hours in advance.
What should I bring with me?
This is an evening cruise, you may want to bring a light jacket or sweater in case it gets chilly. We'll take care of the rest!
What should I wear?
Even at the height of summer, it’s usually cooler on the water. We recommend having a jacket or sweater with you. All passengers should wear rubber soft-soled sneakers/tennis shoes or sandals. No high-heels please!
Is there an age limit for these sails?
While there is no age limit for the sails, all attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Are children and infants allowed to attend? Do I need to purchase a ticket for them?
Per USCG regulations all guests must be counted as passengers and have a ticket to sail. Keep in mind, we have a reduced rate available for children ages 4-12 and children ages 3 and under may attend for a further discounted rate.
Is your sailboat safe?
Manitou meets or exceeds all U. S. Coast Guard regulations for construction, stability, safety equipment, and electronics for vessels in passenger service. The U. S. Coast Guard licensed captain has many years of experience and you can rest assured of being in good hands.
Will I get seasick?
You are unlikely to get seasick. Manitou’s size and construction generally translate into an easy motion. In addition, our sailing grounds in Grand Traverse Bay are well protected from most wind directions.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes, the boat is equipped with two bathrooms that are accessible at all times. We call them "marine heads" and they are unlike the bathrooms you use at home. Using a marine head involves pumping, and there are simple directions posted in the bathroom on how to use it.
What happens if it starts raining when we're out on our sail?
Don't worry, we won't melt! Trips with a little wetness have proven to be some of the most memorable bonding experiences for our guests. (This all depends on attitude of course...) We have ponchos available for all of our guests in the case we are caught in a rain-shower.
Will there be a live band playing?
Yes! The popular music group “Song of the Lakes” will be playing lively jigs, chanteys and ballads of sailing and life on the sea!
Is the ship handicap accessible?
Manitou is handicap accessible, although we cannot accommodate battery powered wheelchairs due to the excessive weight. We do have a manual wheelchair on the premises. There are two steps at either end of our boarding ramp. The crew is quite adept at lifting you over these two minor obstacles.
Are any food or drinks included in the sail?
Yes, the sail includes a picnic meal of a turkey wrap or veggie wrap, pasta salad, a cookie and complimentary beverage. We also have additional snacks and beverages available for purchase on board.
Do you have an alternative meal option for vegetarians?
Yes, we have a veggie wrap available for those would prefer it. Please let us know at the time of booking how many turkey wraps and veggie wraps your party would like.

There is no need to bring extra food since we will be serving a wrap of your choice. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks may be purchased by cash or credit card. Please refrain from bringing beverages with you. It is illegal to bring alcoholic beverages aboard Manitou.
