Enjoyed Every Minute!
Mon, Oct 5, 15  4:00 PM Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My husband and I purchased the Sunset Cruise/Overnight Stay aboard Scout to celebrate our 17th Wedding Anniversary and it was fantastic! Everything about this experience was top-notch! Captain Dave was everything you could hope for in a Captain - friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining, accommodating, and oh so patient while answering our litany of questions. As for Scout herself, she was beautiful! Her woodwork gleamed (inside & out) and she was provisioned with everything that we could need to make our stay comfortable & enjoyable. It is apparent that Captain Dave takes great pride in his fleet and in providing an exceptional customer experience. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone, but especially to couples looking for a romantic getaway!

Absolutely awesome! Highly recommended!

Overnight on the scout was absolutely awesome! Much more than we expected. Captain Dave was very friendly and such a great tour guide telling us where to visit to see what he knew we would enjoy in the area. We had the most perfect day for the sunset cruise and after explaining how to operate certain systems on the beautiful "Scout", and revealing the secret snacks and goodies that he brought for us, he left us to enjoy the evening by ourselves. I can't stress strongly enough how much you should take this excursion on the "Scout" or on the "Manitou", their larger ship used for groups of people. We will definitely be visiting the Tall Ship Company again in the future.

In August, my girlfriend and I did the overnight stay! I surprised her with this trip and wanted to do something out of the ordinary and unexpected! I had no idea what to expect besides from reading the reviews and all of my expectations were exceeded. Our captain, Brett, made the entire trip on the Scout amazing! He went above and beyond in everything and made us feel comfortable as soon as we met him. He is very professional and fun, making the experience that much better. I really can't wait to go again (hopefully next year) and I have already told all of my family and friends about this package! It really is a must see and you will not be disappointed. Thanks again BRETT!!

Amazing Weekend
Sat, Jun 20, 15  6:30 PM Male 30-39 Local Group of Friends
This is my first time writing a review ever. I felt the need to write this review to potentially help future customers to this sailing experience. This trip was booked on a whim with four other friends for my wife's 30th birthday. I expected fun but got way more! This trip started out with the boat captain greeting us at the dock and taking our luggage aboard. He was extremely knowledgeable, fun, considerate, and attentive. By far one of the best weekends I've had in a very long time!! The boat was a 10 out of 10. Sailing was great, boat accommodations were fantastic and breakfast was perfect! If you have any hesitations....Don't! You will not regret this trip. We will definitely be back. Thank you captain Brett for making my wife's 30th b day awesome, and making me look even better having planned it!!

The crew was wonderful. I did this as a surprise for my husbands 50th birthday. The crew was very helpful and instrumental in keeping the secret. They arranged for kids to arrive later after we were on the boat - my husband was very surprised! They were great at helping that happen! The boat was clean and comfortable, the bed was great. Overall it was an experience we will definitely repeat.

So glad we decided to book the Sail and Stay package aboard Scout. Dave was great and Scout performed. We had an excellent experience out on the water enjoying the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay and staying overnight aboard was great fun. Highly recommend this if you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary.

Ratings and Reviews for:
Do I need to book tickets in advance?
While we can sometimes accommodate last minute sign-ups, we highly recommend purchasing your tickets in advance in order to guarantee your space. Book online or over the phone using a Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
The forecast says 30% chance of rain, will it rain on my sail?
This is a common summer forecast in this area. The majority of time we will see little or no precipitation. We watch the weather radar carefully and will cancel in the event of extended periods of heavy rain. However, we will sail in light rain or showers.
What happens if there is bad weather?
If Traverse Tall Ship Co. cancels because of bad weather (thunderstorms, heavy rain for extended periods etc.) you may reschedule your sail or receive a full refund.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded. You may reschedule your tickets (subject to availability) only if you do so at least 24 hours in advance.
What should I bring with me?
Since you will be staying overnight, make sure to bring toiletries, change of clothes, and any extra food you think you will need. We strongly recommend sunscreen and a hat. All alcoholic beverages are BYOB. Please leave large hard plastic coolers ashore.
What should I wear?
Even at the height of summer it’s usually cooler on the water. We recommend having a jacket or sweater with you. All passengers should wear rubber soft-soled sneakers/tennis shoes or sandals. No high-heels please!
Is there an age limit for these sails?
While there is no age limit for the sails, all attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Are children and infants allowed to attend? Do I need to purchase a ticket for them?
Per USCG regulations all guests must be counted as passengers. Please keep in mind that this includes children and toddlers.
Is your sailboat safe?
Scout meets or exceeds all U. S. Coast Guard regulations for construction, stability, safety equipment, and electronics for vessels in passenger service. The U. S. Coast Guard licensed captain has many years of experience and you can rest assured of being in good hands.
Will I get seasick?
Because of Scout’s size as a smaller vessel, seasickness is a concern for some passengers. While our sailing grounds in Grand Traverse Bay are well protected from most wind directions which keeps the water relatively calm, please take the necessary precautions before boarding the boat.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes, the boat is equipped with a bathroom that is accessible at all times. We call them "marine heads" and they are unlike the bathrooms you use at home. Using a marine head involves pumping, and there are simple directions posted in the bathroom on how to use it.
Will I be able to shower the next morning?
You will have full 24 hour access to CentrePointe Marina facilities, including showers and boarters lounge.
What happens if it starts raining when we're out on our sail?
Don't worry, we won't melt! Trips with a little wetness have proven to be some of the most memorable bonding experiences for our guests. (This all depends on attitude of course...) We have ponchos available for all of our guests in the case we are caught in a rain-shower.
Is the ship handicap accessible?
Unfortunately due to its small size, Scout is not handicap accessible. Please take a look at our sails on Manitou, as the boat is larger and can accommodate manual wheelchairs, which we do have on the premises if you only have a battery powered one.
Are any food or drinks included in the sail?
Overnight cruises include breakfast. However, Sunday and Monday night stays are offered at a reduced rate and do not include breakfast. Reduced rate overnight cruises in September and October do not included breakfast. All cruises on Scout include complimentary soft drinks, snacks, Moomers Ice cream, and fruit.
What is included in breakfast?
Coffee, tea and juice are available at all times on Scout. The breakfast menu is always changing but may include: Fresh pastry, bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, fresh fruit, yogurt, home fries.... The list goes on and on.
Do you have an alternative meal option for vegetarians?
Yes, we have vegetarian options those who would prefer it. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have any dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
You may bring your own food, but space considerations do not allow hard, plastic coolers to be brought aboard Scout. Remember that all cruises on Scout include complimentary soft drinks, snacks and fruit. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol. We have a refrigerator on board where you can store your perishables. We also have a full catering menu with many food options.
Will we sleep on the open water or will we dock overnight?
Scout will be securely docked in CentrePointe Marina, where you will be able to spend the night with the boat all to yourselves. The captain and crew depart after getting you settled in, so it's like having your own private cottage on the water!
Is there a place to sit? Is seating assigned?
There are many seating options, including Scout's cozy cushioned cockpit.
Is smoking permitted?
No. Smoking in not permitted anywhere on our vessels or property.
Do you have life jackets?
