Whisper Charters

Zerve Seller: Whisper

Silent as a whisper, the electric powered Selkie II glides across the water.  Explore with us the natural wonders of the Elkhorn Slough as we observe rare Southern Sea Otters, Harbor Seals and hundreds of species of birds.
Elkhorn Slough is one of the premier bird watching sites in the western United States. More than 340 species visit or find permanent refuge here, a remarkable number given the slough’s relatively small size. This roster of birds includes several rare and endangered species, such as the Brown Pelican, Black Bellied Plover, and Peregrine Falcon. The tremendous number and variety of birds at the slough attracts thousands of bird watchers from across the country each year.
Captain Brian Ackerman, a life-long waterman has over twenty years of experience operating oceanographic research vessels for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) and has lived in Moss Landing since 1985. Join him as he guides you through the natural beauty of the Elkhorn Slough.
Selkie II is comfortable and elegant and her electric propulsion allows her to glide across the water in near silence. Wildlife is not startled and you soon feel that you are one with the environment.
So bring a picnic or allow us to cater a special snack as we explore the Monterey Bay's great hidden jewel.

I have taken my visiting family on a couple of occasions on the Whisper Charters Elkhorn Slough tour. Both times it has been a stellar experience for all. The boat is extremely comfortable and the captain courteous, professional and very knowledgeable. There is plenty of wildlife to observe including otters, seals, sea lions and beautiful birds. The quiet electric motor is fantastic in not only its ecologic footprint but also in not startling the animals. I would highly recommend this operation!

We usually kayak the slough, but I hurt my leg and we decided to go on a boat instead. Captain Brian was so informative. I have visited the area numerous times, but now I know a lot more about the birds, otters, sea lions, seals, etc. We have already recommended Whisper Charters to our friends and would gladly go again on this quiet excursion.

This is the second time I've done the Elkhorn Slough Tour with Whisper Charters, and it was once again wonderful. I took my parents and aunt this time and we saw hundreds of otters, including otter mothers with pups. We also enjoyed seeing many, many birds and beautiful scenery. The boat is indeed whisper quiet, making for a very peaceful trip with easy viewing of undisturbed wildlife. We drove down from the northern Bay Area (about a 2.5 hour drive one way) for this boat tour at Moss Landing and were so glad we made the trek.

Appreciate the small group and personal attention - have taken out of town guests on this tour a couple times and everyone enjoys it. Brian is extremely aware of the interests of the group and tailors his engaging and informative comments. Also allows there to be silence to appreciate the serenity of the Elkhorn Slough. Really like the quiet whisper ride.
