Silent as a whisper, the electric powered Selkie II glides across the water.  Explore with us the natural wonders of the Elkhorn Slough as we observe rare Southern Sea Otters, Harbor Seals and hundreds of species of birds.
Elkhorn Slough is one of the premier bird watching sites in the western United States. More than 340 species visit or find permanent refuge here, a remarkable number given the slough’s relatively small size. This roster of birds includes several rare and endangered species, such as the Brown Pelican, Black Bellied Plover, and Peregrine Falcon. The tremendous number and variety of birds at the slough attracts thousands of bird watchers from across the country each year.
Captain Brian Ackerman, a life-long waterman has over twenty years of experience operating oceanographic research vessels for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) and has lived in Moss Landing since 1985. Join him as he guides you through the natural beauty of the Elkhorn Slough.
Selkie II is comfortable and elegant and her electric propulsion allows her to glide across the water in near silence. Wildlife is not startled and you soon feel that you are one with the environment.
So bring a picnic or allow us to cater a special snack as we explore the Monterey Bay's great hidden jewel.

We have taken this trip twice and consider it a great activity to share with out of town friends and family. The ecology and wildlife are so unique and our guests have been fascinated by the beauty and variety of sea mammals and bird life. Our tour guide, Vim, is extremely knowledgeable and makes the voyage both fun and exciting.

After I goofed up the tour date, Brian re-scheduled without extra cost. He proved to be a delightful and informative captain of the ship, who always kept our comfort in mind. Super quiet boat with a cover and zippered windows. Well worth the money. Highly recommend this to locals as well as visitors.

One of the loveliest experiences of my life
Wed, Apr 1  2:00 PM Female 70+ Local Couple on a Date
Attended: Elkhorn Slough Nature Tour
This was an amazing experience. The boat was luxurious (with tea and coffee and bear and wine available) and comfortable. It sits down low in the water, so we were able to see everything clearly. and it is electrically powered so it moves silently and does not disturb the species who live in and on the Slough. The captain was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and a wonderful teacher. We learned so much about otters, keystone species, birds and their migration and courting habits. And the Slough is one of the loveliest places in California.

All in all - this was a day I will always remember and cherish.
