Whisper Charters

Zerve Seller: Whisper

Silent as a whisper, the electric powered Selkie II glides across the water.  Explore with us the natural wonders of the Elkhorn Slough as we observe rare Southern Sea Otters, Harbor Seals and hundreds of species of birds.
Elkhorn Slough is one of the premier bird watching sites in the western United States. More than 340 species visit or find permanent refuge here, a remarkable number given the slough’s relatively small size. This roster of birds includes several rare and endangered species, such as the Brown Pelican, Black Bellied Plover, and Peregrine Falcon. The tremendous number and variety of birds at the slough attracts thousands of bird watchers from across the country each year.
Captain Brian Ackerman, a life-long waterman has over twenty years of experience operating oceanographic research vessels for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) and has lived in Moss Landing since 1985. Join him as he guides you through the natural beauty of the Elkhorn Slough.
Selkie II is comfortable and elegant and her electric propulsion allows her to glide across the water in near silence. Wildlife is not startled and you soon feel that you are one with the environment.
So bring a picnic or allow us to cater a special snack as we explore the Monterey Bay's great hidden jewel.

Whisper Charters - great tour of Elkhorn Slough!
Fri, May 20  8:00 AM Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Attended: Elkhorn Slough Nature Tour
Whisper Charters does a very fine job of touring. The boat is a very quiet electric type so that it does not scare wildlife. It has a canopy for rain and is covered on all sides with clear plastic that protects from the wind, but is highly visible for viewing. The captain, Brian Ackerman, is very friendly and very knowledgable about the local wildlife and the Elkhorn Slough. He responds immediately to customers' interests in any wildlife by immediately getting you closer for a better look or photo. In addition, he told us about how to visit another fabulous wildlife site, local information, which was not readily available through the internet or advertising.

Very enjoyable trip! The boat was easy to access and quiet while running. Captain Brian provided lots of background on the wildlife and history of the slough. He answered all our questions and provided a great tour, taking us to the spots where sea otters, harbor seals, pelicans, and Caspian terns could be easily seen. We'll be back!
