Wok Wiz Tours has been in business for nearly 30 years and was founded by the late chef/author Shirley Fong-Torres who designed her tours to showcase one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in San Francisco: Chinatown. Each year, we bring thousands of guests, of all ages, from near and far, to our vibrant area. Every Wok Wiz tour leader was either born in, or grew up in Chinatown, giving a very local flavor to the tour, and each speaks fluent English as well as Chinese.

Wok Wiz Chinatown Tours remains a San Francisco icon.  Featured in the NY Times, LA Times, Bon Appetit, Gourmet, and Cooking Light, and multiple guide books such as Fodor’s and Frommer’s, the tours are touted as "top attractions" in the city.

Former English as a Second Language teacher, Shirley worked for Levi Strauss & Co., but she found her true path in life in 1984: "To teach and entertain people while sharing my love for Chinese history and food."  The author of four books and numerous food and travel articles, Shirley also guest starred on the Food Network, Discovery, Fine Living-TV, and PBS shows, as well as the Rachael Ray talk show during her life. Her legacy continues to inspire the Wok Wiz team today who, led by Shirley’s daughter Tina and the same food-loving chefs and guides, keep Wok Wiz true to its original mission: "For our new friends to leave us with a greater understanding of the Chinese immigrants and their contributions to American life, and with good food and memories."

Tour for you if you haven't been to a Chinatown

The tour takes you to a number of shops to see the culture of Chinatown, but there is very little in the way of architecture and history of the place. I was hoping to find out much more about the history of the San Francisco Chinatown. A tour for people who are new to experiencing a Chinatown including smells, food and crowds though

lack of Passion and poor food choice

I have been on several walking tours and this is the only one I found disappointing.

Online communication with Wok Wiz before the tour was excellent. The start of the tour was good as the meeting place was very comfortable and easy to find.

However, The guide seemed to lack Passion and sounded like she was reading from a script. The information provided about China town was not very inspiring and was actually pretty boring. i booked with Wok Wiz out of respect for the founder of the company .I had two other walking tour while in San Francisco with a different company and those two tours were great.

My husband and I were in San Francisco on a business/pleasure trip. We loved getting behind the scenes information and the tour ended with a delicious lunch!

We saw things we would have missed if we wandered through china town ourselves. The tea tasting was fascinating and the glimpse into the last fortune cookie factory was a treat

I really enjoyed our tour with Gimmy. It was informative and she kept things interesting. She was also quite funny and was helpful directing us to a delicious bakery after our tour was over.
