Wok Wiz Tours has been in business for nearly 30 years and was founded by the late chef/author Shirley Fong-Torres who designed her tours to showcase one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in San Francisco: Chinatown. Each year, we bring thousands of guests, of all ages, from near and far, to our vibrant area. Every Wok Wiz tour leader was either born in, or grew up in Chinatown, giving a very local flavor to the tour, and each speaks fluent English as well as Chinese.

Wok Wiz Chinatown Tours remains a San Francisco icon.  Featured in the NY Times, LA Times, Bon Appetit, Gourmet, and Cooking Light, and multiple guide books such as Fodor’s and Frommer’s, the tours are touted as "top attractions" in the city.

Former English as a Second Language teacher, Shirley worked for Levi Strauss & Co., but she found her true path in life in 1984: "To teach and entertain people while sharing my love for Chinese history and food."  The author of four books and numerous food and travel articles, Shirley also guest starred on the Food Network, Discovery, Fine Living-TV, and PBS shows, as well as the Rachael Ray talk show during her life. Her legacy continues to inspire the Wok Wiz team today who, led by Shirley’s daughter Tina and the same food-loving chefs and guides, keep Wok Wiz true to its original mission: "For our new friends to leave us with a greater understanding of the Chinese immigrants and their contributions to American life, and with good food and memories."

This will teach you the history of Chinatown and will show you many interesting things in the Chinatown of today. Our tour leader (Gimmy) was great. Three generations of my family have been fortunate enough to tour with WokWiz over the last 20 years.....it's a great way to spend a morning in San Francisco!

Our guide Gimmy was excellent -- very knowledgeable & interesting -- we were with our 4 children who loved it! Group size is limited -- there were 9 people in all in our group, compared to other tours that were much larger & more chaotic. Highly recommend.

Our guide grew up in Chinatown and near the beginning of our tour showed us the first home she lived in. I knew this tour was going to be personal and thoughtful. I loved going into a few of the little shops where our guide, Lola, knew the owners and shared her favorite things to buy there. Very informative and personal tour. Lunch was delicious and well organized and Lola and the restaurant owner bent over backwards to assist the vegan and vegetarian in the group. Tour would make a very nice gift.

The tour guide seemed disorganized. She didn't provide enough history and information. very basic level of information that everyone on the tour already know.

Frank took our group of 6 including a Native San Franciscan of Chinese origin on a fun and fact filled walking tour. We came, we saw, we ate we Conquered....or at least we had a lot of fun trying. We were not sure what to expect and Frank took all the worry away and replaced it with History, Humour and a lot of great food! I highly recommend this tour as much as I do a trip to San Fran and spending time in China Town. PLEASE check out the little out of the way places...Dim Sum doesn't get any better than this.

You will be sorry if you take another tour...FRANK is the best! and so is his tour. It is all about YOU!
