Wok Wiz Tours has been in business for nearly 30 years and was founded by the late chef/author Shirley Fong-Torres who designed her tours to showcase one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in San Francisco: Chinatown. Each year, we bring thousands of guests, of all ages, from near and far, to our vibrant area. Every Wok Wiz tour leader was either born in, or grew up in Chinatown, giving a very local flavor to the tour, and each speaks fluent English as well as Chinese.

Wok Wiz Chinatown Tours remains a San Francisco icon.  Featured in the NY Times, LA Times, Bon Appetit, Gourmet, and Cooking Light, and multiple guide books such as Fodor’s and Frommer’s, the tours are touted as "top attractions" in the city.

Former English as a Second Language teacher, Shirley worked for Levi Strauss & Co., but she found her true path in life in 1984: "To teach and entertain people while sharing my love for Chinese history and food."  The author of four books and numerous food and travel articles, Shirley also guest starred on the Food Network, Discovery, Fine Living-TV, and PBS shows, as well as the Rachael Ray talk show during her life. Her legacy continues to inspire the Wok Wiz team today who, led by Shirley’s daughter Tina and the same food-loving chefs and guides, keep Wok Wiz true to its original mission: "For our new friends to leave us with a greater understanding of the Chinese immigrants and their contributions to American life, and with good food and memories."

I had taken this tour many years ago with Shirley --- I was with a friend this time who had not been to SF in MANY years and wanted to see/do everything --- I suggested this tour and we were SOO fortunate to have it be just the two of us and Gimmy, our guide. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed it --- she was delightful and we saw and learned so much (I had forgotten a lot and learned some new things) --- would recommend this to ANYONE --- I think the more intimate tour afforded us learning so much more --- THANK YOU GIMMY!!!

Gimmy was an excellent guide, with a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of china town. She is informed on current issues in the area, and is very interesting to talk with. This is the best way to see china town and understand it better.

Our San Francisco trip was a 50th wedding anniversary celebration, and even though there were not enough other people for the company to schedule a tour on the day we wished to go, it did so anyway because of the special occasion. Our tour guide, Gimmy Park, was wonderful in every way--intelligent, engaging, caring, and extremely informative. Lunch was delicious. Everything was perfect.

Frank, our guide, was excellent and tuned in to what we really wanted to learn about. He answered our questions about history and told us a great deal of information that was unique to China town. We toured the back alley streets and met many of the locals. It was well worth the money!

Fun overview of Chinatown

I had been on one of the tours 25 years ago & really enjoyed it. My husband was a first timer. Our guide, Gimmy, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The group was only 4 people including one person in a wheelchair. Since the tour involves getting in and out of numerous small shops and navigating steep hills it was challenging but we were able to get in everywhere on the tour. Even having done the tour before there were new and interesting experiences. The dim sum lunch was enjoyable and not too challenging for less adventurous eaters. Definitely a fun introductory tour to Chinatown.
